‘In Hitler’s invasion of Poland, he had to move a massive number of troops up to the border.
When the German government was asked why by the Poles,
They answered, ‘We are staging war games.’
The west knew better and they still did nothing.’

“The South Korean armed forces have just gone to their highest alert status, all of their reservist have been ordered to report to their units by midnight. The American 2nd Division has deployed their men and material away from their bases. Two of their fighter wings from Alaska flew into Japan this morning. And part of their pacific fleet is moving from their bases to assist. Including quiet a few warships from San Francisco and Los Angles,” Admiral Ju reported with disgust as he then added, “Xo either the North Koreans have tipped their hand, and the South’s spy system is better then we expected. Or the Americans suspect something and are making ready just in case?”
“It could be a combination of both Admiral, or maybe not either one, it might even be a simple feeling of being picked on. Since they are having most of the problems from the financial strain the west has been experiencing these last few weeks. Especially with the large number of computer viruses that are wrecking havoc with their banking and stock markets, all of this is causing doubts within their egocentric superior attitude.”
With a chuckle he continued, “When you have the dumping of several billion in counterfeit dollars, yens, pounds, francs, marks, euros and pesos worldwide crashing their collective currencies, it gives reasons for concern. When you add in the panic caused by our massive sell off of all the western powers Government bonds, treasury notes, and their major corporations stocks we held. Then you can see why they are being cautious, they look to blame others because our allies and we are losing faith due to their continued imbalance of trade and payment troubles.”
Ju smiled then because he knew that the opening part of the operation was working and yet their enemies didn’t know the why behind it or what was really at stake.
Xo smiled in return to as he said, “Then on top of this add in the new viruses that is sweeping America and causing some panic, where thousands and hundreds of thousands of Americans are getting physically sick in many cities from a strange stomach flu, it would make one question if it’s the end of the world, now wouldn’t it?”
With a straight face Xo continued, “They are also having problems with parts of their electrical distribution system and I have heard on the news even some of their water purification system has failures and a few cities are being forced into making mandatory rationing. With many other people close to panic because several of their largest cell phones areas are now blacked out. As well as several servers systems are having major malfunctions as they were all handled by commands received by cell phones or over their Internet system. With such interdependency when one system fails so do many others. They are at fault as they designed all of this to work as an integrated system, and then act surprised when it fails, they are fools, and deserve to be treated as such.”
Xo with a laugh said, “We are lucky it could be us facing the same problems except that the 54th Research Institute is our brainchild and they are the ones directing the electronic chaos. And now nature favors us with the stomach virus striking the Americans at the same time. If all that was happening to our New Middle Kingdom, we would be a bit testy too, now wouldn’t we, or as Dim using an American expression would say, ‘they are having a bad hair day.”
Ju roared with laughter as he tried to say, “They are complete fools,” as he continued laughing. Slowly regained his composure and chuckled, “Two weeks of attacks, and they have no idea the wars is raging. I’m sorry to laugh so hard Xo,” as he chuckled some more, and muttered, “a bad hair day.”
Smiling at his friend’s laughter Xo said, “No need to apologize, I’m glad to see you laugh. But give the credit to General Dim he brought it all into prospective the same way last week, I laughed just as hard then as you did now. Maybe we both needed to laugh and relieve the worry and pressure from the last eight years of had work that have lead up to this day.”
“General Dim made that joke? I would never have thought that of him, he must have a different face that I have never seen or suspected?”
Still smiling XO agreed, “Yes General Dim, he plays the straight man very well. He arrived safely in Usu and will direct the three armies that invade Russia and the one Army invading into Afghanistan. He has orders to hold two armies in reserve in case India and Pakistani forget their differences and decide to join in on the side of the Americans and Russians.”
“As for the North Koreans, they will not destroy the South Korean Army or the Americans units stationed there, they have the determination but physically they are weak from years of hunger and do not have the stamina or modern weapons. We know the Nippon Army and Air Force will aid their allies and history will repeat itself; we will have to send an Army to help defend North Korea again. But this time we will stay and in a year rule over a united Korea.”
“We have the plan, the men and the weapons Xo, I just worry about fighting a war on four fronts, it is something that in history has never happened before.”
“History is written by the victors Ju, We have over twenty million men in our attacking armies, and eight million more in reserve. In one year we will have another thirty million, trained soldiers all armed and ready. When the first attack begins in two days in America, the world will be stunned. The western powers have at the most six million men ready to face us, one million or more of them are scattered in many lands around the world, the war will be won before then can be brought into the battle. With four fronts where will these scattered forces move too, which country can send aid if they too are threatened?’
“Our Islamic allies will attack on several other fronts as well, they might be small scale attacks compared to ours, but they will tie down those local forces that might have been rushed to fight against us. It is we who will be writing the history books very soon, bold attacks, daring attacks, and so the new horsemen will swipe all enemies aside and conquer the world. The Kahn has returned, the horsemen have returned, and China now takes it rightful place again, as the Middle Kingdom at the center of the world.”
“The Christians in their Bible talk about the Horsemen because they so feared our ancestors I think it goes like this. ‘And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.”
Ju added with a smile, “At least they understand the part about Death and Hell, but it’s not a pale horse, it’s the yellow horse, the Chinese horse.”

“BP Agent Mario Sanchez calling, I would like to talk to Agent D Salvador please.”
“One moment please, I’m placing you on hold.”
“I’m on hold Prescott, you sure I should be calling D,” Mario turned and asked the senior agent?
“Sure am, something big is going to happen in the next few days. That political jackass of a boss we have, won’t pass on any of the field agent’s info back to Washington. I’m hoping that maybe D can call his buddy the General and get us a Air Force AWACS flight or some such thing, we sure need to take a look south of the border; a night flight with some thermal cameras, would let us know real quick if there’s a lot of people gathering, outside of the normal numbers of illegals, especially of any real large concentrations or hidden encampments.”
“I’m sorry Mr. Sanchez, agent Salvador is out of the office on an operation would you like to leave a message?”
“Just tell him I called and he’s to call me as soon as he can, it’s urgent thanks.” After he hung up the phone Mario was thinking, maybe I should have told her that several of the Border patrol agents in our sector say that most of their informants in Mexico have heard that the Zetas members and other drug gangs were moving a large number of people up close to the border.
Recently these para-military people have helped train a very large numbers of young Venezuelan, and quiet a few American Hispanic gangs from the Southern California Cities barrios. And more then one good source said they were moving them up to staging points within ten kilometers of the border.
That these groups were getting ready to move across with a very large number of men that weren’t Hispanics. The informants told them the Mexican Federal police and the Army knew this and were doing nothing, having been bought off again.
Prescott didn’t like the idea that the Zetas and M13 gang members were working together and they planned to move their people when they felt the time was right.
Right for what though?
Just the needed logistics to support a large group of people with food and water cost a lot of money, to the gangs that money was profit, and they hated wasting profit on actions that brought no income in.
That fact alone implied that they will be moving them north of the border in the next few days at the very least. That was his gut feelings, and several other agents felt the same way and agreed with him.
The only good news on our part was that at least the boss agreed to let the agents work in larger groups for protection, even if that caused several large gaps in their border surveillance job it was better for their morale.

Revelation 6: 3 & 4
“Ayman you worry too much the ship is ridding high in the water, if they even look at us. They know that this trip is to pick up 10,000 sheep, not to drop off any cargo. I don’t understand your fear, their Coast Guard has no reason to stop us for an inspection. To them this is just another routine trip for us, the fourth of the year. Last year this ship made six voyages to the United States to pick up various types of live cargo. They know and trust the Captain and have his shipping manifest as posted. He has not once been dishonest until now, so stop fretting, OK.”
“Those other times, the Captain did not have 10,000 heavily armed men aboard, heading to invade a sleeping America. Our friends the Chinese whom I do not trust, said they have another 50,000 more of our fellow Jihad Army soldiers spread out over four of their ships. And we will have close to another fifteen thousand either coming across from Mexico in the next few days or already in California and waiting, ready to attack.”
“Don’t worry the plan will be successful.”
“That is easy to say, all it takes is for one of them to have said a few words to a shopkeeper or to a friend who stayed behind. They in turn brag to a friend about our plan, then the cursed Mossad would know. And if they know, they will tell the Americans, then all is lost. How did the American phrase go about lips that are loose sinking ships?”
“It’s ‘Loose lips sink ships”, as he said with a smile, “We are past that part now, we are in the channel leading up to the loading docks, with only a single American harbor pilot in the control room, and he suspects nothing.”
“It could still be a trap.”
“No we are past that point, the Americans would have stopped us off the coast if they suspected anything. In less then thirty minuets we will be tied up at the pier, then we will only have to wait another half-hour before the Chinese Special Forces soldiers seize the port. Then we can unload our troops with out firing a shot.”
“The Americans are able to become ferocious fighters when they are attacked, World War II and the Japanese surprise attack proved that. And back in Iraq and Afghanistan they are slowly winning.
“Yes in World War two they were worthy, at that time they don’t have to worry about their families or their own people. But here in their home, they have become soft; they will be unwilling to fight a bitter war to the end. Their fathers may have been warriors then, but their son’s have become wimps, the Americans are full of false pride and the majority of them are just plastic patriots. All shiny and nice to look at but either a thin piece to hang up on a wall or hollow with nothing inside.”
“Plastic Patriots,” Ayman said if asking a question?
“Go into any of their stories, most are filled with cheap plastic junk, most of it marked with ‘Made in China’, from shoes to appliances and even their flags they fly to mark their holidays.”
“Plastic Patriots,” Ayman said with a smile, “that is a good saying, I will have to remember that.”
“Trust me the plan is simple, it will work, you must have faith. And now is the time, this Dar ul-Kufr, this land of unbelievers is no more it will be the Dar ul-Harb, the land of war, a time of just vengeance for failing to convert, and all praise will be to Allah as he guides us.”
Ayman did not hear the last of Kalida’s reply as he had turned and bowed his head, praying in the direction of Mecca asking for divine help in their richest task ahead.
‘All Praise and thanks be to Allah, The Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds. Peace and prayer be upon the Imam of the Mujahideen our prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions. Show us the straight path ... not the path of those who earn your anger nor of those who have gone astray.’
‘We promise you, Oh Nation of Muhammed, peace be upon him, that we will massacre the Jews and Christians along with their agents and dogs. Our swords will drip with their blood and they will not cool off except in their chests and on their necks. We promise you that we will institute the righteous state in the land of the Rafideen, soon we will rule that land and it’s people by the laws of Allah. The end in is sight for this temple of Satan that is called California, as the Mujahideen strikes at the throat of these most preverted Infidels.’

In Baseball the home team, gets to play defense first,
While there opponent gets to hammer away.
(That’s why in warfare, away games are better.)
From the book The Return of the King, J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord Of The Rings, shield maiden Eowyn say’s. ‘It needs but one foe to bred a war, not two, Master Warden,’ answered Eowyn. ‘And those who have not swords can still die upon them. Would you have the folk of Gondor gather you herbs only, when the Dark Lord gathers armies? And it is not always good to be healed in body. Nor is it always evil to die in battle, even in bitter pain.’

D and a large team of INS agents waited patiently, hidden in the scrub and rocks just up the beach from the high tide line, just to the west of the Golden gate bridge. There was also a sizable force of county Deputies stationed up above the old costal artillery fort on the road that lead down to this park, they were assigned as back up only, just in case they needed the extra manpower. The INS vehicles were hidden from view behind the fort, just as a precaution if some one were to come that way to contact the smugglers. And tonight would be the third time they had set up here in the last week; so far it was a wild goose chase, sure hope we get something this time.
The intelligence source, a paid informer I’m sure, working in an office for the Chinese shipping firm had told their contact that a container ship from Shanghai had several hundred illegal immigrant men on board. And just before the pilot boat meet them they would off load, and use rubber boats to land them at the beach just west of the beacon, near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
D hadn’t protested too much when his boss sent him up here to help, he would be compensated nicely for the temporary assignment to the San Francisco office, more then anything else though he missed working with his own team. But the regional director of the INS wanted as many people as possible that could understand and speak Potonghau present, and since D also knew Wu the dialect from Shanghai it would be a great help to them if needed. The one draw back on being up in the bay area, and D had forgotten the first night, it was always cold and damp especially down by the water, he should have remembered that and brought more clothes.
Especially since he had attended the Presidio for language school and only now remembered how he hated the bay area with it’s damp cold that seeped into you at night. After being miserable that first night of trying to set quietly and keep from freeze, that nest morning after waking up, he headed off to a local Army/Navy surplus store and picked up some Army goretex, a parka and pants with quilted liners and some heat hand warmers. That second night had been a lot easier to endure, and one of the INS agents and a couple of the deputies had followed his lead, and bought some of the goretex uniforms for the third night, to help them keep the damp off.
The sun had set several hours ago, and as usual a low thick fog had developed, it was four or five feet deep over the water. With almost zero visibility, and there would be no moon until well after midnight. D was thinking ‘if I were the one to plan this smuggling operation, I would have picked this landing spot and tonight as these are the ideal conditions’. But that was the military side of him, the illegal immigrants if they came, were just lucky in that the conditions were near perfect for them.
Even if the country was in a protracted recession, the last two evenings they had seen a lot of container ships coming into San Francisco. When D had asked the local INS guys if that was unusual they had laughed, the answer was simple. They said, “This is a very busy port, besides Christmas is a little over four months away, the volume might be just a little higher then normal but not a record. It was maybe a little busier then the last two years where the whole economy was dead. The orders from the stores must have been higher this year and it looks like it will be a good Christmas shopping season. Maybe the green shoots were finally starting?”
D’s next question didn’t faze them either, “All right what about the Navel Blockade that China is talking about placing around Taiwan, I know someone is taking that seriously. I don’t know how many of our combat ships they have stationed here but I know of at least a dozen that headed out yesterday late and I saw five more this evening departing. If there’s a threat, I mean shouldn’t we be inspecting the Chinese ships before they dock or even enter our territorial waters?”
“The Coast Guard has jurisdiction, and they are doing a fine job.” D was told even if he felt that he had gotten the standard pass the buck answer. He didn't feel any betterafter the local Agent in charge said, “Besides they are only able to board ships for inspection when they have cause, and that works out to about one in a hundred.”
“That’s not good, if we suspect something then we should be able to act on it. Like checking out that car hauler that went into the bay an hour ago, that would have been one I would have checked out.”
Sam Dennison the head field agent continued, “Calm down D, your not on the border where they can line up and walk across. We don’t have a full proof system here, but the cargo manifest of each ship that heads to the US are sent on electronically, when that ships leaves the port of departure and is headed our way. The Chinese government has stepped up on enforcement on their side and they are doing a lot of inspections and they have even stopped several hundred people from becoming stowaways. You will get a few every now and then, a few who can elude the inspection, as when a crewmember takes a bribe and allows a few to sneak aboard. But the captains and the companies that own the ships are not going to lose their license to ship to America, by smuggling a large number. There’s no profit in it for them, they would lose to much in the long run.”
The agent added as an after thought “I’m not saying that a large number like 30 or 40 couldn’t be hidden on board, but our informer said, several hundreds were involved. Well I think he might have exaggerated the number this time, any way we will know in the next day or so. I’m hoping tonight is our lucky night, I’m sure getting tired of working half a day and sitting in this cold fog for half the night.”
D didn’t say anything, but he couldn’t help but think, ‘man do these guys need a stint on the border. It would wake them up and maybe they would realize that there is a problem, that people high up in governments were involved in the human smuggling business and we aren’t winning. Unless more people started getting a sense of urgency about what could happen, sure as shooting something bad is going to happen.’
Oh well it’s been three night’s since we started this sit, watch and wait operation, and nothing. Looking at his watch it was 11:30 and the last ship from Shanghai on tonight’s schedule had just passed under the Golden Gate and disappeared into the rising fog, we should know in a few minuets or so if the information was good; or not!
D held the thermal imaging scope up and again scanned the area to his front. At first he wasn’t sure it was working correctly, cause he was seeing several fast moving heat blips, then his mind sorts out what his eyes saw. He now recognized that he was seeing at least a dozen fast moving boats, all of them full of people heading directly into the small beach area.
Handing the thermal scope to Sam the head agent D said, “Better take a look. I see several boats heading in, all of them fully loaded, I’d say more then likely there are 150 plus people in them, maybe a lot more?”
Sam took the scope and did one quick look, held it away from his eye then back for a longer look as he said, “Holly shit, there’s ten eleven boats in the first group and I’m seeing another group just behind them of even more boats, looks like our information was correct again.”
Taking the radio off of his belt he tried calling HQ, he wanted them to send several busses to their location, but after trying several times and not getting any response, he asked one of his men, “is my radio working?”
A man about 20 meters away answered, “Heard you fine, base didn’t answer there is a lot of background static though. It sounds like white noise if you know what I mean?”
“White noise like we are being jammed?”
“Yeah but different too.”
Sam taking another look through the scope then handed it back to D said. “The first group of boats, they are about 300 meters out and moving slower now. The other group has slowed almost to a stop behind them like their waiting?”
D now looking through the scope said, “Two of the boats are now ahead of the first group, at the present speed I estimate we have about four minuet’s before they land, try your cell phone.”
The agent said, “Good idea,” as he was dialing the number the whole bay seemed to grow darker and the lights on the bridge and its supporting legs flickered then went out, then came back on again as it’s stand by generators kicked on.
D and Sam looked at each other in the near total dark and both thought great, another power failure that would make the fifth in two days. But this one was different, in a normal power failure a few of the smaller cities in the bay area they could see, would still be light up. This time it was the whole bay, and it had a different feel to it, something wasn’t right.
The agent said to D, “Phone rang once then cut out when the lights blinked. I thought all of the cell towers had their own back up power. I know down here I should be able to connect to at least three if not four systems, I tried again but I’m getting nothing, it doesn’t make any sense? Let me have your cell phone I’ll try again.”
D handed his over and he could hear Sam pressing the pads and then the send button, and it got quiet. Sam waited and nothing, then he hit redial and waited again. After a minuet of trying to call out, he handed the phone back to D and said, “No luck I even tried to call my own cell phone and that didn’t work either, for some reason all of the local towers have gone down?” The concern in his voice betrayed his thought, about the report last year on that Chinese Graduate student’s paper. ‘About how the American Power Grid could be taken down.’
D put the phone back into a pocket and again looked through the scope at the two approaching boats and said in a loud whisper, “Everyone get ready the two boats that are coming in are less then 100 meters out.”
The two boats were heading directly towards them, you should have been able to hear the outboard motors now over the sound of the waves hitting the beach, but they heard nothing. The few boats in the first group was standing off shore close to 300 meters out, and the second larger group another 200-300 meters back from them.
At about thirty meters out you could hear the low muffled sound of the engines, it reminded D of his SF days and the silenced engines they had used for river crossings, and making practice raids onto beaches. This must be some major smuggling operation, because these guys would have had to pay some big bucks to get their hands on such good quality equipment.
Just a few meters out from the shore the muffled engines are shut off and the two boats glide in quietly and softly touch the beach. Two men hop out of each boat and the four spread out about five to six meters apart and then come up the shore another fifteen meters or so, then stopping and taking a knee to look and listen as they scan the area with their night vision goggles. After twenty seconds or so, several other men get out of one of the boats and all of them are scanning the low shrubs and rocks the INS team is hidden behind. D looking through the thermal night scope can see that all of the men are wearing night vision goggles. He gets the impression that they are looking directly at him and the other agents.
Then three of the men walked up from the two boats past the four guards directly into the center of where D and the other agents are waiting.
One of them says in accented English, “If you value your lives don’t use any lights please, I need to speak to the agent in charge. But you must hurry, we have only ten minuets before the other boats land their troops.” In the tone of his voice was a warning, and at the same time a plea for them to cooperate.
D standing up turned to Sam and said, “It’s alright, it looks like a Military operation, they all have on night vision and slung weapons on their backs, but their hands are empty. Did anyone mention to your office that a Marine Recon unit was doing some night maneuvers?”
Sam stood up and turned to speak to the team of agents “No one is to turn on any flashlights or the spot lights, clear.” Then he turns to the man who spoke and asks, “alright no lights, now what gives?”
D steppes up to talk to the navy guys, “I think some one in the INS department forgot to fill us in, as word never got to us about your maneuvers. We had a good tip that a large group of illegal Chinese were coming ashore.”
The man facing D said, “Your tip was correct, it was the only way the Colonel could meet you and give you a copy of the invasion plan.” He held out his hand and in it looked like he had a small packet he was holding out to D.
D took it and could feel several hard CD cases in the waterproof bag. “I don’t think you navy guys understand we aren’t part of your training scenario. As I said we’re an INS team and up by the parking lot are some county deputies…”
The man from the boat cuts him off, “Quiet sir, please it is you who do not understand. It is you and your country that is in great danger, the last few weeks my country has been attacking yours. All of your stock market problems, computer system failures, power outages, and other countries dumping your money. The sudden outbreaks of sickness on your cruise lines, at the ball parks and in Las Vegas are attacks from our allies plus the open build up of our forces facing Taiwan all have been the opening moves of war.”
“Now, right here, is the first overt move of actual military forces against America, as we speak several of your west coast ports have been seized by Special Forces units of the PLA. Soldiers who have been hidden in your country for two years, many of them working at your docks. Before sunrise there will be more then a million soldiers ashore at each port, spreading out to control the cities and soon after that, the rest of the state. In less then two days there will be over five million Chinese soldiers controlling the whole west coast of California. The plan if it succeeds is to knock America out of the war before you have a chance to defend yourself. ”
Sam listening said, “What the hell are you talking about, you know you jar heads really talk some shit at times.” Sam looked at D not sure what he was thinking, so he said with his voice full of sarcasm. “D you’re not buying any of this crap are you?”
D got that cold feeling running up his spine; know he knew why those Chinese SF team came across the Arizona border two years ago. That icy feeling up his spine changed to a hot sick feeling in the pit of his stomach as the second man behind the speaker said in Putonghu, “Tongzi, Yi bai Wan….”
In English it translated to, “Major Tongzi one million… men will be ashore in 12 hours you must hurry, these Americans have to leave with the disks, the other boats will be moving in soon,” as he looked at his watch, “in less then eight minuets. If they need more time to be convinced have them take you and half of the first boat crew up to the main road you can give them more details on the way.”
D asked the man in Putonghu, “Are you the one Major Tongzi referred to as Colonel?”
The second man wasn’t even startled by an American addressing him in Chinese as he said, “Yes I’m Colonel Woe Chu-yu, you must understand what I’m saying, and pass on to your military, your leaders the disks I gave you. Make them understand that they must pull back the military forces stationed here in California, if they stand and fight in place they will be overwhelmed, destroyed. If you do not warn them and make them understand that, then America will lose this war in the next few days. Now you must go, take Major Tongzi and six of his men to the top of the bridge and leave them by the highway there, they will act as my forward lookouts. Do this quickly, once the rest of the battalion lands we move move’s up their in an hour, our mission is to stop all southbound traffic just before first light but to allow anyone going north to escape.”
D listened as the Colonel continued, “The Major will give you a satellite phone that you must guard with your life until you can give it to your military. They must keep it charged and plugged into a laptop computer to receive a sub code within the spoken message, the person who answers must speak Putonghu and be ready to answer any calls that come in from the three numbers that are written on the back. It must never be used to call back on those or to any other phone number, as it would place the three holders in great danger. With what I have told you and the plans on the CD’s you should be able to stop the Khans army here in America from reaching their final objectives.”
“Then you can start your counter attacks; a lot of lives will be lost on both sides, but it gives you a chance, If America can hold out and win, then you give us a chance in China, Now Go!” He ordered, “Or all will be lost before we can stop this mad man who now rule’s China and wishes to conquer a large part of the world.”
D sensed, no he knew that the Colonel was telling the truth so he ordered, “Sam get everyone back to the vehicles right now. No lights, call the deputies on the radio tell them to load up and have all of the vehicles there facing up hill, as soon as we get there we have to move. Again no lights!”
“What?”
“I’m serious Sam do it, I want you to wait by the last two vehicles I will have six of these soldiers with me and I’ll explain as we get the hell out of here. Have all of the vehicles including the deputies wait at the top and I will try to explain the situation to all of the men then!”
Sam wanted to argue but the tone in D’s voice made him move, something was going on and it didn’t sound good. He shouted, “As D said very one back to the wheels now, load up and drive to the top and wait there, you’ll be briefed then. Now move it damn it and again no lights.”
D taking a business card out of his wallet, turned back to Col. Woe as he offered the card and said, “Sir my name is D Salvador, I served twenty years with the American Special Forces and spent a year in China working with your SF. This is my satellite cell phone number; use it as a back up to the phone you gave us. I will send your phone to Ft. Bragg within the next few hours to our SF HQ and we will follow your instructions in using the phone. I’m not sure how we can repay your gifts of military intelligence.”
Col. Woe cut him off, “I do not commit treason by giving you these, it is an act of patriotism for my country and it’s survival. That is why I and a growing number of officers and others have done what we can, the Kahn must be stopped, now go I will save your number, I hope we will both live through the next year or two of the coming battles, and meet again.”
“I don’t know what else to say sir.”
“Nothing else is necessary D, Major Tongzi you and your team go with D, explain all that you know, now go,” Col Woe again ordered.
D turned and quickly ran the hundred yards to the hidden vehicles followed by the six soldiers, as he got closer he could hear several of the other vehicles driving up the steep road slowly with out any lights on. That drive would normally take about seven minuets with your lights on, it would take them over twenty minuets in the dark.
Three men were waiting by the last two SUV’s as D got right up to them he could make out one of the men as Sam, the second man was the deputy in charge of the Sheriffs patrol. The last man was agent Gary Yuan, a third generation Chinese/American who spoke excellent Putonghu but with a slight American accent. Good D thought to himself Sam and I will take the deputy, Major Tongzi and one of his men and he can brief us with all that he knows.
D directed the six Chinese soldiers in the seating arraignments and all of them obeyed. “Gary follow us up the hill, take five of these soldiers with you. Sam you drive I know enough of what is happening, and I can listen to the Major tell you and the Deputy the rest of his story, as I make some calls on my satellite phone.”
“This had better be good D, what, where in hell did you get a satellite phone? The only one I know in INS who has one is three levels above my GS rating.” Sam said with an incredulous look on his face.
D ignored him and called Ft. Bragg.
Sam told the Chinese officer, “And major this had better be a good story or some one in the Navy is going to have his ass in a sling!”
“Sam if you don’t mind me using your first name, please listen because what I tell you is the truth, China is at war with America.” the Chinese Major stated forcefully.
Sam just nodded his head in agreement, and said, “OK you already said that, now who are you and what is going on?”
“My name is Major Tongzi and I’m with the Chinese 125th independent Infantry Regiment assigned to the 10th Army. We are part of a force of eight armies that have been ordered to invade California. The Armies for our Northern California operation are the 10th, and the 71st Chinese plus two Jihad Divisions for covering the San Francisco area, the 73rd Army is coming ashore in two converted car haulers and container ships down at Port Hueneme, and the 43rd, 74th, 94th, 97th and the 100th Army’s with two more Jihad Divisions are making landings down in LA. I don’t need to add in all the necessary support elements or attached artillery divisions, and the Air Force units with fighter jets and helicopters, but we have almost five million men.”
“Five million, huh, how could you sneak 50 thousand in? No way five million buddy,” Sam answered with a snicker.
“You must believe me Sam, that’s the truth and there is suppose to be another Army landing up in Washington State of almost a half million men. Col. Woe said some of our people who oppose the Kahn’s plans were able to misdirect half of that force into docking in Canada and the other half into landing here in San Francisco. They did it by changing the receiving ports shipping orders and sending the new directions to the ships when they were still four days out. The ships Captains not aware of the overall missions did as they were directed, we were able to cut down on the size of the forces attacking there, but it is still a formidable Army.”
“Our people were also successful in misdirecting troops schedule for the operations here. In our task force ships heading for Los Angles, the first ships containing men for these armies were sent onto Panama. To you two ships might not seem like much but that is a force of over four hundred thousand men, some of our best units and soldiers that won’t be available here in California.”
“When we stop up by the highway at the bridge you must make your men understand the danger. You have to alert all of your military bases in the invasion areas, most will have to evacuate in the next few hours, then regroup with other units outside of the state and continue the fight. I also suggest that you must get your families out and to safety. Your civilians will not be protected or helped by our Armies; there are Jihad army troops among our forces and they plan terrible things. Our orders are to let them terrorize the people, to stamp out any resistance before it rises. Also the forces of local traitors plan on seizing land to make a new country called Aztlan.”
Sam didn’t like what he was hearing and started to reach for his cell phone he had tossed on to the dash of the SUV when he got in.
Major Tongzi saw this and said, “I’m sorry unless it’s a satellite phone, you will have to use regular telephones; our special units have hacked into the various cell phone companies programs and have scrambled all of their systems.”
Sam then reached for the vehicle’s two-way radio and turned it on, some one must be setting on a mike because he heard muffled voices speaking but couldn’t understand what was being said.
The Major said, “Sorry that is one of our ship board units, we are jamming most of the military and government frequencies in the bay area, that is part of the invasion plan.”
D said to the person on his phone, hold for a minuet we have a situation I need to address.” Then to Sam and the Major he said, “That will only work against us in long distance Comms Sam, Deputy use your hand-held unit and call one of your other deputies. Have him use his car mounted radio it has more power, he’s to call your dispatcher and alert him to what’s going on. Also have him tell your dispatcher to call on the phone to Oakland and get a couple of their police helicopters up over the old Navel Air Station and report back what they see. He should be able to get through if we are close enough to your radio tower. Up north here we should be able to work under the jamming, that’s if we are far enough away from the jamming source? Major do you know where some of the ships are so we can get a police helicopter to fly over and verify the landings?”
“Yes, we have ten ships docked at Oakland and two more at Alameda, if they need proof have them fly over the old Alameda navel air strip. There are two converted oil tankers you call them super tankers, those two were over an hour ahead of our ship, they should be in position and started off loading armor and other heavy units now. Very soon they will have four STOL fighters on combat air patrol with at least another twelve on stand by, plus protection with air defense missiles units for any of your fighter jets that try to interfere with the landings.”
After D told Sam to drive, he ignored the question on why he had a satellite phone and quickly punched in the numbers for the duty officer at Ft. Bragg. Waiting for the connection and the phone to ring he prayed, ‘let it be an old hand there that knows me, oh Lord, we can’t afford any delays every minuet counts.’
The phone rang once and was answered with, “Special Forces Training Wing, duty NCO, Master Sergeant O’Doul speaking.”
“Tom, thank god it’s you Tom, this D Salvador. Listen up friend if they haven’t changed the alert status, I have a priority Alpha One real-world report, hit your scramble button.”
D waited a couple of seconds then heard the electronic chirp that their two phones were now secure as he asked, “Tom can you patch me through to your Duty Officer or to General Puckett?”
“D the Duty officer just left to make his last area inspection for the night, I can call him on the radio, what gives your not on active duty status are you?”
“Tom if your using a clear channel on the radio, just tell your Officer to get back ASAP. And no I’m not active, but I have been doing some work for the General the last few years off and on. Call General Puckett now.”
D waited several seconds then asked, “Have you got the General on the line yet,”
He heard Tom talking on his radio to the duty officer, “Sir I need you back here, and it’s a Alpha one Alpha, over.”
“Roger that, six minuets Echo Tango Alpha out,” came the reply.
“Just a second D, I only have two hands,” as he hit the speed dialer on the desk phone, D could hear the other phone ringing.
A mans sleepy voice answered, “Yes, can I help you?”
“Sir this is Master Sergeant O’Doul, duty NCO, I’m sorry to bother you but I have D Salvador on the scramble and he used our old code of an Alpha one real-world, and he says he needs to talk to you.”
General Puckett is instantly alert and wide-awake with the mention of an A1 real-world, “Sergeant I don’t have a secure line, I do want you to listen in thought. D you heard I’m not secure on my end, you can work around it but not in clear terms, OK.”
“Got it sir, remember the training at Ft. Lewis back in 87’, that’s when we went over the revised invasion plans drawn up by that Army LT and the Navy Lieutenant, back in 76’?”
“Yes I do, the ones with the plans to use Sierra Tango’s?”
“That’s right sir, well that’s what is going on right now, four ports, three here in Charlie and one just north of Whiskey that I know of. To help you confirm, I need a fly over, local in Sierra Foxtrot to cover the old navy base Alpha. I have asked the local LEO’s I’m with right now, for a patrol helicopter to take a look, but we have very limited Comms, as we are being actively jammed on most radio frequencies. Plus all of the local cell phone systems are out, and it’s the same with a lot of the local electrical grid.”
“Got it D, do you have any proof this is for real?”
“Yes hard in hand and verbal, I can’t risk saying more until you get to a secure phone, how soon?”
“Fifteen minuets from when I hang up, O’Doul is your duty officer there?”
“He’ll be back in another two minuets sir, he was out on inspection.”
“That’s OK sergeant, after I hang up, open your duty book to Red One, the code to proceed is Zulu Sierra and the word is Gremlin, cut the seal and ask D the necessary question and then have your officer make the three calls to the numbers listed, while he is doing that call the duty desk at Irving and alert them use, the code phrase ‘Number One Red, alert Charlie; it’s the highest alert I have the authority to give, tell them to expect Echo in the next hour.”
(The five alert levels: normal, Alpha (low), Bravo (medium), Charlie (high), Delta (critical) and Echo (War).
“D I’ll call you in fifteen minuets when I get in, right now we need to get the ball rolling, what’s the closest base to you that might have a courier jet?”
“Don’t’ know if there is one at the old Hamilton base I’m twenty minutes from them, but Travis is only an hour away.”
“Head to Hamilton I’ll have one from Travis come to you, just don’t get caught in any trap that may be forming. I need you alive and functioning D. Puckett out,” the general said as he was hanging up.
Tom said, “D, I have some questions I must ask, and a couple of personnel ones from me.”
“Go ahead Tom,” D answered.
Reading the first lines of the report he has to make he exclaims, “Shit D, it’s just a glorified Salute Report you know, size of unit, and country of origin of opposition, activity, location, unit, time and equipment. Tell me what you know I’ll fill it in. I already did the time.”
“North side of the Golden gate Bridge, Chinese Regular Army units. At least two companies maybe three from the 125th independent Infantry Regiment.”
“Presently most of them are below the bridge, once assembled this unit is to move up and hold the north end of the bridge. Equipment will consist of, sir what are the troops armed with,” D asked?
Major Tongzi took a breath then answered, “We are landing three companies, each soldier is armed with the type 95 rifle and carries either a PF 97 or 89, two weapons that are a like your LAW. Every 6th man will carry either the type 95-squad machinegun or the QLZ95 a 35mm automatic grenade launcher. We also have two teams equipped with the HJ-9 anti Tank guided missile. And two teams with the Manpad Qian Wei-2 for close in air defense. There is also a mortar squad with each of the three companies, they will have three tubs of the type 85, 60mm and fifty rounds each.”
“Ok got that D, do you have any hard evidence and/or any prisoners?”
“I have seen them with my own eyes, and I have one of them with me giving us detailed info, hard evidence will be sent to you by plane,” D then said to Tom, “hold for a minuet. Corporal call one of your deputies…”
Major Kerns entered the office just as Sergeant O’Doul was asked to wait by D, he said, “Sir General Puckett ordered a Charlie alert, after we were alerted by a A1A call, listen to this,” as he turned on the speaker phone they heard D say, “call one of your deputies. Have him use his car mounted radio it has more power, he’s to call your dispatcher and alert him to what’s going on. Also have him call on the phone to Oakland PD and get a couple of their helicopters up over the old Navel Air Station, have them report back what they see. He should be able to get through if we are close enough to your radio tower. Up north here we should be able to work under the jamming, that’s if we are far enough away from the jamming source? Major do you know where some of the ships are so we can get a police helicopter to fly over and verify the landings?”
“As I said, we have ten ships docked or will dock at Oakland’s three harbors plus the two ships that will just be off the west end of Alameda. The best place to look for proof is to have them fly over the old Alameda navel airstrip. “Looking at his watch the major added, “there should be four STOL fighters on combat air patrol their now and more being readied for stand by. Plus they will see air defense missiles and gun batteries in defensive positions around the air strip and base buildings ready by now, all waiting for any of your fighter jets that try to interfere with or try to stop the landings.”
“All of this equipment and men came from the two oil tankers that were over an hour ahead of the ship I was on, if they are on schedule they will be off loading their second and third decks of armor and heavy units now.”
“Thanks sir, Sam, what did the deputy say, did his dispatcher called Oakland,” D asked?
“He didn’t call back with an answer, I’ll call him now and ask.”
“Tom you still there?”
“Yes D, Major Kerns just heard that conversation and read the bit of your sitrep.”
Taking the phone Maj. Kerns thought this was a drill alert and said with a laugh, “This is Major Kerns, and you are?”
“D Salvador sir, I’m a former SF Master Sgt. I’ve been out almost six years now, presently I work for the BP, and Department of Homeland security. We have a major incursion, in my immediate vicinity no shots fired yet, but this is for real. Ask Tom, sorry sir but ask Sgt O’Doul or the General they both know me and this is a no Bull Shit situation. This is not a drill, now whip that smirk off you face and give the phone back to Sgt. O’Doul and make the phone calls that are listed.”
The Major was stunned enough by the tone in D’s voice that he handed the phone over, and went to the other desk to make his calls.
Tom took the phone, switched it back from speakerphone and said, “Take a deep breath D, were all on the same team buddy.”
“Sorry Tom it was his, ‘I’m an officer’ attitude that got me.”
“That’s OK friend, it has to be tough being right at the spear tip, I’ve got to go, I have some calls to make too, hang in there, we are with you, stay cool stay safe!”
D switched off the cell phone then asked, “Sam did the Major convince you?”
“Hell yes, especially with the cell phones out and now the radios being jammed. But what was even more convincing was your call to that major and the way you talked to him, Jesus what are we going to do?”
“In another couple of minuets Sam your going to brief your little force, I suggest telling them to run home and get the wife and kids, all the food and guns they have. Load them up and then get the hell out of the immediate area. It would be best if you could all meet at a location well north of here.”
“Since long-range radios and cell phones are out we’ll have one of the deputy’s head back to their HQ and give them a face to face heads up, I’m sure they will have to be convinced to. Sam you’re in charge of your people so if I were you I would pick a spot well north of here. If there are any bachelors among them they can join me if they want. I’m going to get very busy tossing sand in the Chinese engine trying to slow them down. The guys with me can call and alert their families if they are local, and they can link up with me at Hamilton. I’ve orders to follow, to meet a plane there and get this packet from Major Tongzi off to Brag or DC, then I’m going to see the base commander and alert him so he can get his small command out of here.”
“Sounds like you have a plan D?”
“I’m working on one, after I drop off this package. And if I can latch on to some equipment I’ll be a needing, I plan on heading to a place I know over by Bridgeport. It belongs to my best friend and we have a small group that we can operate with, and cause all types of serious problems to the enemy. Opps sorry Major Tongzi I don’t mean to insult you, but it looks like your country and mine are in for a war, the last time our armies fought was back in Korea, and it got real nasty.”
“No need to apologize D, call me Mark as that is my first name, I was named after the second book of the New Testament. Colonel Woe hand chose me because he and I are both Christens, the same for all of the members in the two boats that came ashore first. Not all of the Chinese that you will face will be the Kahn’s men, I just hope that we both survive the coming fights, and that I can go home to help free my people, that’s after the battle is finished here in America and you win. Sam I will help you explain I have an idea that will help.”
“Thanks Mark, hey D I have a friend who lives up in Eureka he has a big riding ranch with a lot of fuel stored and housing for dozens of guest. I would think that would be out of the way from any Chinese advance?”
Mark answered first, “Our forces are suppose to move into Eureka on day 25, that would leave you more then enough time to move on if necessary, that is if the Khans General can keep up with the original plan, and the ever changing tactical picture, especially if your armed forces interrupting the schedule. Colonel Woe has his doubts that Army Group Ten’s General has the ability or even the desire to keep to it. He is in command of the northern forces, and he is well qualified, but he doubts his own abilities and his people. He is a great one for making plans, but has no stomach for a fight; he is not a coward but he dislikes seeing blood. You would say he lacks guts.”
The Deputy with them said, “Eureka sounds good to me to.”
Getting to the top by the bridge the eighteen vehicles of the INS and Sheriffs patrol people were waiting for them. Sam and Major Tongzi tried to explain what was developing but the amount of joking and disbelief was about the same that Sam had expressed at first. Major Tongzi then took his service weapon with a loaded thirty-five round magazine in it, went over to one of the unmarked deputy’s vehicles and from about ten yards away he unloaded it full auto into the engine. Everyone jumped, some even took cover not knowing what to expect next.
Mark comely reloaded another full magazine, as he told the men, “We have wasted almost 30 minuets arguing, You men need to move out now! As I said our countries are at war, yours just doesn’t know it yet. I am sorry for destroying your car maybe now you know what I‘m saying is true. Now would the deputies who were riding in this car please remove all of your personnel equipment and place it in one of the other cars.” Looking at his watch he told them, “you have only another twenty-five minuets before the first company walks up here, I hope I made my point.”
“Place the weapon on the ground Major and back away, put your hands in the air, your under arrest,” one of the deputy’s had his pistol out and was pointing it at the Major.
D standing beside him placed his shotgun barrel in the deputy’s ear and said. “Holster your weapon son, and no one else do anything stupid, cause this scatter gun has a hair trigger. I don’t want anyone hurt and we don’t want a shooting war started between Americans. In the next few days and weeks you are all going to see more death, destruction and war then you can imagine.”
After putting his pistol back in his holster the deputy pleaded, “But sir, he just shot up my patrol car, how am I going to explain that to my shift sergeant?”
The deputy Corporal in charge, Frank Langford said, “Your not, at least you better not plan on being there at shift change Chris, this is real. As the Major suggested, ride with Jason and get home, grab the family and head north.” Taking out his wallet he pulled out six one hundred dollar bills handing them to Jason saying, “Here take this and stop first at a all night grocery store; Bob and Gary I want you to take your patrol cars along to. I want you guys to buy as much dried beans, rice and potatoes. Canned meat, vegetables and fruit as you have money for, if you have to, use your credit cards too, and don’t worry about the bill. From what I understand the Major is telling us it will be a couple of years before any bill comes due if ever. We are going to need a lot of food for our eleven families and a lot more depending on whom all you call when you get home. I’ll go back to the station and try to explain what is happening, maybe they will believe me if we have something more to back up our story, like when the Oakland helicopter does it’s fly over?”
“If not, I still plan on leavening the station ten minuets after I get there, I’m heading over to see my buddy who runs the arms room at Hamilton. I plan on us being very well armed and having the ability to fighting back, but as a Military unit not a bunch of police and INS agents, we aren’t trained, or equipped to fight as an army unit. After I get the weapons I’m going home to pack and call a few buddies who are ex-military and alert them. Sam besides the 11 of us deputies here and our families, I know of six or seven of our guys on the swat team who will want to come along, can we meet up in Eureka with you and your guys?”
“Sure why not, if your buddies and the extra ones I know all show up that give us a force of over 40 armed men plus,” he answered, “I’ll draw you a map, and give you two names of family members and their phone numbers who live up there.”
Frank said, “Thanks, alright guys, for my deputies and any of you INS agents who want to join us, plan on meeting up at Sky Ranch airport in Petaluma in three hours, my brother is the manager there, he has several hundred gallons of fuel on hand for the support vehicles, we can top off our fuel tanks and fill as many gas cans that you bring along. If you ditch your patrol vehicle for a larger vehicle, make sure you carry your hand held radios and its mobile charger, stay on this frequency but call only in an emergency. I plan on pulling out and heading north at 5:30 sharp, so if your with me, less get a move on.”
Turning to D, the Corporal said, “Take Armstrong and Inez with you, they both live in the old BOQ’s at Hamilton, both are single and in the Guard, they have some equipment and know the facilities there. After I stop at our patrol office, I’ll be following after you in say twenty minuets max, they still have a large well-stocked armory, and lots of extra equipment on hand, cause it’s a training unit for the large reserve force in this area. Even in four large trucks we couldn’t haul all of the weapons away. The ammo depot will also have a lot of stuff too, I hope your General friend back east has some pull and we can pick what we want. Other wise the Chinese will have it,” he turned to Major Tongzi and asked, “Major you wouldn’t know the time your people intend to take Hamilton would you?”
“Some time around noon today, if they keep to the schedule. The plan is to launch a ground assault against it and Travis Air Force base at the same time,” the Major said.
“Frank I’m going to go over and warn the toll keepers here on the north end of the Bridge, my son is working the shift tonight. We will meet you up at Petaluma,” one of the other deputies shouted as he turned and ran to his patrol car, then with lights flashing speed south.
Gary Yuan the other INS interpreter tells D, “My family is back east so their safe, I only have a small apartment and there’s nothing there I can’t walk away from. I would like to come with you if that’s OK?”
One of the deputies named Erickson said he also lived over by Hamilton and had been out of the Marines for a little over two years, he asked to join with D, “It would be just me and the wife?”
D said “OK you follow us,” looking back at Frank, D said, “That makes three of your guys going with me and one patrol car, I’ll still be at Hamilton when you get there I’ll make sure they have one ten ton truck for you to take, see you there.”
Then turning to Sam, “Buddy I’ll ride with the two deputies in Gary’s SUV, I have orders and I have to get to Hamilton. Take care of yourselves don’t stay in Frisco more then a couple of hours, I hope to hear that you all make it up to Eureka.”
Shaking hands, then Sam announces in a loud voice, “Everyone knows what to do, make it happen now haul ass, and be careful. D I’ll see you later friend.”
Everyone hops into vehicles and heads out, as D is getting in to leave he says to Major Tongzi, “I want to thank you and Colonel Woe, you saved a lot of lives tonight, American lives, I know that what you did, will cost a lot of Chinese lives, but just maybe it will keep America from losing this war just as it starts?”
“One of your great presidents once said, It is a sad truth, that the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with- The Blood of Tyrants and Patriot’s. WellI want to see as few patriots killed as possible. Colonel Woe is a patriot, I’m just learning to be one. If America wins this war, we, the patriots of China have a chance to win in China and to stop a tyrant. If America loses, the whole world is lost. We need America if we are to have a chance D, now go with God’s speed, as his strength and grace protects you.”
Five minuets later down the road, “I have an idea on how to get to Hamilton, but help me out here Armstrong or Inez,” Gary said.
Just then D’s satellite phone rang, he said, “Keep driving Gary.”
Pushing the talk button D said. “D here, go ahead,” as he inserted the first disk into his laptop to make a hard copy to his drive.
“It’s General Puckett here D, It took longer then I figured but I’ve asked Travis Air Force base for a favor and they will have an F-16 at Hamilton by the time you get there, make copies and keep them just in-case something happens to the jet.”
“Doing that now sir,” D said.
“Good we are not able to get any Intel from the Oakland side of the bay area, no one is answering the phone at either of the three piers guard shacks, the dispatch office or at the Customs inspectors desk, and it’s the same down at Long Beach. The Coast Guard has lost contact with two of their harbor patrol craft, one of them almost an hour ago, and they didn’t report it to the Pentagon. They have a helicopter up and it should be over the pier in San Francisco in another thirty minuets or so.”
“And something is happening down in LA, one of the local TV news choppers was reporting on a lot of strange equipment being unloaded at a dock, when it disappeared off the local radar near Long Beach. And that was before they could report or say exactly which pier. A search is just getting underway for it now. Also in the same location, the harbor pilots for the last six ships to dock haven’t reported back in either, so we know something bad is building down their D. NSA and the Air Force have been alerted and we will get some satellite coverage and Intel fairly soon from them.”
He paused for a second then he continued, “I asked Travis to go to Charlie alert, they scrambled two F-16’s to fly over the northern part of the bay. They are on site now, one will fly over Alameda at 5000 feet with it ground search radar on. The other one is to hang back and observe, I have a direct feed from there air ops center so listen in.”
In the background D heard one of the pilots say, “Something just happened to my radar, I’m not getting back any readings. I’ve done a diagnostics check and it says everything is fine and working, but nothing is showing or coming up on the screen, over.”
D said to the others in the government vehicle, “Listen to this,” as he plugged the phone into a dash mounted unit and turned on the speakerphone unit.
“Double Echo, pull up and return to my loc then orbit here, I have a working system. I can see the Richmond-San Rafael bridge, and several ships up here, over.”
“Roger that Echo-one heading your way now. Wow, my systems just started working do you want me to turn around and try again, over.”
“No you must have a loose connection, I’m passing you on the east about a mile away I’ve got a bearing on Alameda and will have it visual in twenty seconds, over.”
There is a pause for a second or so then, “Damn, now my sweep radar system isn’t reading a thing double Echo, system check says everything is working. Base is there any word from the Oakland International about any radar problems, over,” Echo one says.
Another voice says, “Negative Echo-one, we have seen flights taking off and landing in the last ten minuets on our radars, FAA has been advised of your mission.” The radio operator must have turned his head as you could hear him ask, “For real?” Then his voice returned too normal as he said, “Echo flight, alert status has now changed to Charlie, I say again alert Charlie do you copy over.”
“Copied Charlie Travis, if international flights are still coming and going that means they have me on their radar same as you guys do. I’ll do my fly by, about a half mile out north of the old air strip heading is 2 double zero degrees.” A short pause then, “I can see one end of the runway down by the hangers, it is all lit up and I can see dozens of aircraft and ground support vehicles parked there so something is going on.”
“I’ll do a loop over the bay and will come back in from the west. For a better look over.”
There is a twenty or so seconds pause, then the pilot say’s “I’m picking up two large ships on my passive weapons sight, both are nosed into the west end of the old base, not sure but it looks like they have some type of ramps on either side leading up to the island and a lot of equipment rolling down the ramps.” Then a loud beep-beep noise is heard going off as the pilot say’s “I’m being painted by a strong ground radar attack unit, dropping flares and pushing it down to the deck.”
In the background you could hear General Puckett tell Sgt O’Doul, get me a direct line to Papa-Charlie six, I want their chief Duty officer on the line, it is now a confirmed, ‘Red Cup action.’
You could here the pilots labored breathing as the 29,000 pound thrust engine is whining higher, reflex wins, he doesn’t consciously realize it but he had engaged the afterburners, then a loud crack is heard as the engine noise changes pitch to a deep roar, and in a second the beeps stop.
“Shit, sorry base, sorry I just punched it through the sound barrier without thinking. A year in Iraq and another in Stan, makes you forget about flying here in the states.” Then he whistles and says, “who ever painted me, it stopped as the anti-missile flares lit up the end of the base by the bay, there sure is a lot of armor rolling down there, I’ve got it all on tape.” He pauses and then exclaims, “all right something funny going on here, my ground radar is working again. I’m just about two miles east of the base now. It cut out when I was about three miles north and west. I’m not a tech-no jockey but I stay current in reading the threat reports, you think maybe those guys down here have an electronic blanket spread out, one that’s absorbing the radar?”
“If they do then they are way ahead of us, that is just a theory proposed as being possible,” Double Echo replied.
“Base do you want another run this time from the east? I promise you, no sonic boom this time and do we have permission to arm weapons, over?”
“No on both questions echo-one orbit up by the north end of the bay, we will want to go over that tape to see what equipment they brought with them, over.” There’s a pause the he said, “Be advised the Oakland Police has an air unit moving in from the east that just crossed over the old security fence, and they are approaching the hanger and flight line. They have their Flier (Forward, looking infer-red) on but not their searchlight. They will be flying due west with out slowing down. The pilot is now reporting the same thing you saw, a lot of armor and other equipment, plus one hell of a lot of people all heading east. The pilot is also reporting a lot of static jamming on the frequencies the patrol cars use. He say’s there are at least four police car units near the old base but not a one of them is answering their departments calls, over.”
“Travis this is Vice-Admiral Brooks the duty officer at Papa-Charlie six, I’ve been listening, have one of your Echoes do an orbit around Alameda starting at five miles out and spiraling in. I want to know where his sweep radar cuts out, tell the pilots to use caution, if he thinks he has to go to supersonic for personal protection that’s ok. Until the President comes on line, we will be using my authority, so I want you to Inform your commander that I am ordering a change in all west coast units alert status from Bravo plus to Delta as of now, with every unit is to carry combat loads.”
The Admiral must of turned his head away to talk to some one else as his voiced was muffled a bit as he said, “I understand that you we’re at Charlie now, I want to up the level to Delta, I cannot order a change in DEFCON but I want everyone listening to know that this is not a DRILL, this is real world. I have changed the board as of now world wide all units are to be alerted for combat, with full combat systems loaded and to operate at the highest level, if fired upon you are to return fire, do you copy.”
“Travis here I copied that Papa-Charlie six, Double echo did you copy, over.”
“Double echo copied, over.”
The Travis control said, “Start your run on the west side heading one-eight-O, due south, maintain 1000 MSL (meter above sea level), I am informing San Francisco and Oakland International you have full priority over.”
“Double echo, roger that, over.”
“Travis this is Papa-Charlie six, have the local FAA clear the Bay area of all commercial traffic, no take off’s and have all incoming flights diverted to other fields, I’m doing the same to LAX and its surrounding fields. Copy?”
“Travis, copied over.”
“D, General Puckett here again, as you heard Travis is on full alert, right now the Pentagon is alerting all active military, and all of the National Guard and reserves units that are in California, the Governor’s office is being informed now. I have already faxed an alert to all state side Army units out side of California. As for Ft. Lewis, McChord, Whidbey and Bremerton up in Washington State I called them on the way in, we own you big time on this one D, thanks for the heads up.”
“Sir what about the public? And whom do I report too?”
“This news is going to the news media as we speak. D your not part of any of the local SF teams so don’t ask to be assigned to any of them. Instead I want you to get supplies at Hamilton and move out of there fast. You’re to stay ahead of the refugees that are expected, so get out of town and start setting up an Intel and resistance team up in the mountains.”
“Will do sir, I’ll be heading over by Bridgeport, a friend has property there and it is well off of the beaten track.” Refugees, American refugees fleeing the cities, fleeing California, D sure didn't like the sound of that.
“I’ll leave the line open so you can listen in, out for now,” General Puckett ended.
Minuets have gone by since they left the bridge and D sees that Gary is driving thirty miles faster then the speed limit and says, “I know we have a county sheriff behind us but slow down to ten miles over the speed limit we have to arrive in one piece.”
“Sorry D, listening to those guys over your phone makes me want to hurry,” Gary explained.
Inez spoke for the first time, “It’s almost like listening to a World Series game isn’t it? This doesn’t seem real at all. Stay on 101 north Gary, we have about three more miles to go, look for and take the 459 exit.”
“Thanks, appreciate that,” Gary said then added, “and your right this whole situation is like a bad dream, or an episode from the ‘Twilight Zone’, but one that we are staring in.”
“Travis this is Oakland Niner over,” the Oakland PD chopper call’s in.
“Oakland Niner, Travis here, go ahead, over.”
“We circled south and came back on a bearing that took us over 61. With the power outage on the ground my Flier is working great. I can clearly see tanks, dozens of tanks and many other tracked vehicles and a whole lot of APC’c and hundreds of truck mounted infantry and some type of missile systems moving on to highway 61 from the old air station, some is headed north across the bridge and even more is moving south and east into Alameda and down toward the international airport. Ahead of these Armour columns I can see several pickups racing ahead dropping off more troops who are guarding selected intersections over.”
“Copied Oakland Niner, any ideas on the number” Travis asks?
“I estimate between six and seven hundred tanks and other tracked vehicles, maybe triple that number of wheeled vehicles. The two tankers are still low in the water so they have that many or more to unload yet. I know that news is bad, and here’s some more, our number seven bird just flew over Oakland’s outer and middle harbors and they reported seeing thousand of troops moving out in estimated company size formations, leaving from the shipping container storage yards. Thousands of them are moving on foot toward Berkeley, but they have vehicle-mounted scouts ahead of them and they are shooting at any vehicles approaching their vehicles. I’m clearing out and heading back to base, we are sitting ducks if they start shooting at us, over.”
“Roger Oakland Niner, thanks for the help now get to safety, Travis out.”
D asks, “General Puckett, I’m trying to remember details from that 76’ situation paper? I think they said at least two to two and a half divisions for each tanker?”
They can hear a phone being picked up as Gen. Puckett answers, “I think that’s correct D but those were the super tankers being built at that time. The Shipping manifest for these two tankers that entered the bay at 2130 hours yesterday, shows them to be almost double in size of the ones in 76’. I would think that means at the least four divisions per ship.”
“That doesn’t sound good sir, we are almost at Hamilton, and I can see some MP”S in two HumVees, with mounted weapons, they do know we are coming don’t they?” His laptop just completed copying the last disk so D placed it back into the waterproof packet with the cell phone Colonel Woe had given him and resealed it.
After a short pause the General came back on the phone and said, “Don’t worry D, it’s just a precaution and yes they know your coming.”
“Thanks sir, as soon as I hand off my packet, I plan on hitting the Arms rooms and Ammo depot, As I said I’m going to pull back to a friends place up by the Nevada line and get ready to make some trouble.”
Stopping at the gate Jeff shows his ID and say’s “We have a packet and their is suppose to be an F-16 waiting for it.”
The MP looked back at the patrol car following before he could say anything Gary said. “The deputy sheriffs car behind me is with us.”
“Yes sir, follow the MP on the motor cycle he will take you to the hanger.”
General Puckett tells D, “The base commander is Colonel Taylor, and he will see that you are taken care of, we have four SF reserve teams in that area, and they have lots of extra stored on base. Colonel Taylor has orders to assign you a medical team of nine plus a signal team of six, including their vehicles, and enough fuel, food, weapons and ammo and other supplies to last a force of fifty men for three months.”
In the background they could hear the radio traffic, “Travis this is Double Echo over.”
“Go ahead Double Echo,” Travis answers back.
“My sweep radar is blank now on the east and south side of Alameda, the same as down by the bay, they are spreading the blanket east and south over.”
“Double Echo this is Papa-Charlie six, I have been advised that you have a powerful ground attack radar that you can use to lock on targets. On your next approach drop down to 300 meters, fly straight down the old runway, switch on the attack radar and see if it will penetrate. If that works locate the source of the jam, you have permission to use one of your HARM’s over.”
“Roger Papa-Charlie six, starting my run back across the old station from the east now, HARM is armed over.” A short pause then he says, “half a mile out. I’m switching attack radar on now.”
A couple of seconds pass then the beep, beeping starts up and you can hear some muffled explosions, “I’m being painted and they are attempting lock on, receiving some triple A, not effective yet.”
“HARM has a lock, releasing weapon.”
The beeping is almost a constant sound more like a buzz, as Double Echo says, “dropping chaff and flares, trying to scramble their lock on. Triple A is danger close now. I’m showing positive lock on from at least six sources and I can see two maybe three missiles climbing towards me. I’m taking it down to the deck hoping I can get under them,” The pilots breathing is labored now an he sends his 26,000 pound F-16 screaming Falcon supersonic across the old base at a height of 30 to 35 feet, just above the antennas of the vehicles streaming from the two converted super tankers. Seeing his one chance to avoid the missiles racing towards him, he fly’s between the two converted tankers and out over the bay, losing the radar lock on and the missiles following.
The three missiles are of a new generation and instead of crashing into the ground they scream at mach-4 to a height of a mile and explode high above the bay.
“Double echo, this is echo one, that explosion above the bay, are you OK?”
“Echo one, yeah I’m OK, I got lucky and flew between the two ships and lost their missile lock. I think the HARM got something off to the north maybe one of their radar units. Base we are going to need an AWACS next time we attempt this, my on board systems are hard pressed to handle the ECM and ECCM these guys have, over….”
The air controller at Travis orders, “Echo one, double echo go to Mack one scramble, head north, multiple bogies have just taken off from Alameda and are headed your way, we are launching more interceptors,..”
A different voice is now heard coming over the radio drowning out all others, even though it is spoken in English with a Chinese accent, the speaker is not very fluent. “This message is for the American Commander, from the Chinese Tenth Army Group Commander. The Khan has declared war on your nation. We are landing numerous Armies at twelve ports as I speak. If you use biological, neurological, chemical or atomics against our soldiers, the separate commanders of these forces have order’s from the Khan to attack your nation with the same weapons.”
“If your leader or Government orders their use against the Middle Kingdom, the Khan’s Armies attacking America will use them here in America. Yes our countries are at war, but we need not completely destroy each others land or people, let this war, be a skill in arms and of Generals, not just the use of brute force. At this time we are advising all commercial aircraft to avoid this area and to land in at airports in Arizona or Nevada. To save your people the terror of a protracted war it would be best to surrender now.”
Someone in the background says, “Who the hell is that, Identify yourself. What station was broadcasting that message?”
There is a loud explosion and then a continuous pooping noise mixed in with a sound like someone’s nails on a chalkboard, you can here static over the phone. Then the Pentagon trying to raise Travis Air Force base, “Papa-Charlie six, to Travis you still there…” a pause for several seconds then, “Papa-Charlie six, Travis is anyone there? Again a few second pause, “Papa-Charlie six calling Travis, do you copy?”
“Still here Papa-Charlie six, the Chinese just attempted to jam all radio frequencies, and right now all of our radars are looking like a snow storm, we are trying to work around that. That explosion you heard was at the control tower, it just took a direct hit not sure if it was a missile or what, oh shit, sorry sir but the base alert siren just went off, wait,” you could hear someone in the back ground saying something then the Travis operations officer came back on the line. “Sorry sir I have been informed that we just took four cruise missiles, two hit the tower and two into the old aircrew ready room and flight operations center. We had twelve people in the tower or in that area; no one was at the old RR and FOC sir… I have to drop this line now; the Executive Officer will call you back on another secure line in two minuets, Travis out.”
All of the people listening are stunned by what’s happening for a few seconds then, “To all stations monitoring this net, this is Vice-Admiral Brooks, Alert-level-one lock and load, I say again Alert-level-one hostile action has started. Stand by for further orders out!”
D looked at Gary then with a glance at Armstrong and Inez as he said, “Shit, well if you had any doubts before, it’s a shooting war now boys.” As they pulled around the hanger and up to within 50 feet of a waiting F-16, the pilot was standing next to his plane, talking to another man dressed in ACU’s, two others men also in ACU’s, probable aircrew men stood by the access ladder.
D got out and walked over to the waiting pilot and said, “Sorry to keep you waiting sir.”
The man waiting with the pilot answered, “You must have an important packet, the order to get it up to Beale AFB, it has the highest priority I have ever seen. And they are getting ready a Blackbird to send it back east.”
The pilot added, “I’ve been told to break records getting it their, if it’s alright to let us know can you tell us what’s going on? Colonel Taylor and I haven’t been told much, except to work with you.”
D apologized, “Colonel Taylor sorry sir didn’t know it was you sir.”
“That’s alright now what is happening.”
“You won’t believe me, but the Khan has declared War on the US, and the Chinese have landed several million troops in various ports here in California and Washington state. A couple of the fighter boys from Travis just had a little shooting war with them down over Oakland. Thousands of troops are moving into Berkeley from the two container yards in Oakland and they are shooting at moving cars, and just as we came around the hanger we heard that Travis had taken several cruise missiles hits.” D said as he handed the waterproof bag to the Colonel who placed it in an EMP proof lock box, and then handed that box to the pilot.
With a grim look on his face the pilot said, “I heard the two Echo’s talking as they took off just after I did, and something about them doing a radar run across the old Alameda Air Station, then I had to switch frequencies and land, just before you showed up the Colonel and I thought we heard a couple of explosions toward the south, but nothing back east toward Travis, the ones to the south, if they were explosions was quiet a ways off.”
D said, “That would have been the anti-air missiles blowing up over the bay, or maybe the ones that hit Travis. Just before that happened the pentagon ordered all of our armed forces to go to Delta, and after that a Alert-level one was called out, we are in a shooting war now.”
Turning to the pilot D said, “You better get going sir, just before Travis went off the air they were scrambling some more interceptors and I have to call Major General Puckett and inform him when you’re airborne.”
D and Colonel Taylor turned and walked away from the jet as the pilot climbed back aboard and started it up, the two-aircrew men who had been standing next to it, rolled the ladder away.
In less then a minuet the fighter was headed down the taxi ramp and as soon as he hit the runway it accelerated and took off, then turned and headed north toward the Yuba City area.
Climbing to altitude the pilot was joined by two other F-16’s as escort, using their short-range air-to-air radios he was informed to increase his speed to Mach-2, or 1500 mph, Washington wanted his package pronto. They weren’t worried about waking people from the following sonic boom. The other pilots were surprised that he knew about the invasion and the first small action his wing had just been involved in, and about the missile strike on Travis. On the short flight north all he could think about was; what am I taking that is so important to the SR-71 waiting at Beale, and why did Washington think it had priority over the developing fight down by Alameda? And who the hell was that man who gave him the packet? This was almost like a chapter out of a Spy Thriller; the only thing that was missing was a beautiful counter spy.
Before getting back into the SUV and looking over at the waiting MP sitting on his motorcycle, D told Col. Taylor, “Sir I can’t reveal my source of information, but you did have until 1100 hours to get all of your military personnel, their families, and every bit of equipment that you can load up and to get out of here. The original Chinese attack plan was to take this base and Travis at noon. That may have changed since shooting has started?”
“Thanks, the alert has already started, I’ll shift it into high gear. I need to get busy I have over 600 active duty Air force and Army people to call in and get them moving. It’s mostly hospital people with a few engineers and MP’s and some active National Guard instructors. I have a feeling we are going to need every man and women that we can muster. And there are several thousand reservists in the area that need to be notified, and equipped. 11 A.M. you said, that isn’t a whole lot of time. To be on the safe side I’ll inform everyone we have to move no later then 0900. When I got the call to meet you here they didn’t say a thing about evacuating the base. If I don’t receive any directions from the Pentagon and since you seem to be in the know I’ll take what you say as a warning order. Do you have any suggestion where I should plan on sending my people?”
“If it was up to me, I would be out of here by first light at the latest sir. If you don’t get directions from the Pentagon, I’d head north to Redding and then cut across to Reno, some of the INS people and the deputies I was working with an hour ago are heading to Eureka, but it’s not that big of a city and it wouldn’t be able to support a large number of refugees for long. If you would sir, please have that assigned medical and signals team link up with me at the Ammo dump in one hour.”
The Colonel nodded his head in agreement then turning to the waiting MP he said, “You are to take these people to the Motor pool, the armory and the ammo depot, then over to the rations ware house in that order, anything they want, they get, do you understand that son?”
“Yes sir, I’ve been listening can I pass the word along to my people and get them to start calling their families and alerting their civilian buddies off base, sir.”
“Yes, tell them to assemble the families at the sports fields complex next to the motor pool, and their buddies are going to have to pitch in and help load up the vehicles, I want everyone and all of the equipment we can load to be ready to head north no later then 0830 hrs. I plan on moving out as soon after that time as possible.” With that said the Colonel hurried over to his car and sped off to his HQ.
As they were following the MP, D said to the men with him, “You heard the order of what we are getting, I can let one of you go at a time with Erickson in the patrol car to pick up all of your field uniforms and boots and every piece of gear that you have.”
“Gary don’t worry we will get you some stuff before we pull out.” D then told the two deputies, “If you guys know of anyone else that you would trust your life with, call them and have them join us at the armory or the ammo dump, at no later then 02:45 hours that’s gives them a little over two hours, Inez you go first, I want you and Erickson back here in thirty minuets, that will give Armstrong the same amount of time to get his stuff together and get back here, then Erickson can go and get his stuff. Guys we have a little more then two hours before we pull out. Now do you understood, cause that’s the plan we will work from!”
Armstrong suggested, “Sir if Inez take’s a five ton and Erickson takes his patrol car, we could carry more peoples gear, and the truck can stay at the BOQ for our other friends that live there to load their stuff on to. When Erickson and I go back for my stuff I can then drive the truck back down to the Ammo dump, along with the others we ask. That way after dropping me off, Erickson who lives about a mile away won’t have to wait on me, that will give him close to an hour to get his stuff and join us.”
D said “Good idea, go with it and don’t be afraid to make suggestions,” then he made the call and informed General Puckett that his first mission was completed.
The General said, “Well done D, you may have just saved the United States, load up what you need take one or two hummers and two ten tons, and the other people and vehicles I told you before. Oh by the way, you’re back on active duty status and since it’s a shooting war I just gave you a battlefield commission to the rank of Major. Now do I need to send someone to alert your family down in Santee, you still live there don’t you?”
“Yes we still live there, but no, and thanks for offering sir, I’m calling them next and they will be OK. I have two good neighbors I trust who will help, one is a retired Seal CPO and the other one spent ten years in a Ranger battalion, they will see my family to safety. Unless you have other plans I would like to have your permission to form a small unit sir, that way I can start hammering the Chinese as soon as I can get those people organized. We will also gather Intel, that would be a lot of help to you sir?”
“Exactly the three things I want you to do D, Intelligence first, then train people and cause as much mischief as you can. As soon as I can I’ll get some more SF people assigned to you to help. Just don’t get caught, they will kill you slowly and get all the information you have to tell.”
“I know that sir, I’ll call the duty desk later today when I get to my friends retreat. Out for now.”
At the motor pool, the guard was busy signing out vehicles to several other people who were also in a hurry. D smiled in satisfaction, good the word was getting out.
D walked down the line pointing at, two Humvee’s, a fuel trailer, a water buffalo and at four 10 ton all wheel drive trucks that he wanted. Pointing at the first ten ton he said, “Inez, take this truck, Erickson follow him.” Then he asked “Armstrong what’s your rank in the National Guard?”
“Not in the Guard, I’m in the Army IRR, that’s Independent Ready Reserve D. I just finished the course for Staff Sergeant and I’m awaiting promotion.”
“OK you’re a staff Sgt. as of now and my acting motor pool NCO, sign for these vehicles, have Gary help you hook up the fuel trailer and make sure it’s full, if not fill it. As soon as I make a few call’s I’ll help you hook up the water trailer to the other 10 ton, that last truck is for the Sheriffs man coming later.”
Using his satellite phone he dials his home number, his wife Anna answered with a sleepy voice, “Hello?”
D just said, “Sorry to call you so late honey but there is a situation happening right now, are you awake, good. Please listen because I have only enough time to explain this once, the United States is under attack and it has started here in California. The Chinese have landed troops up here in San Francisco and down at Long Beach too. Rght now you are not in any danger but that will change in a couple of days if you stay there. So you have to be on the road no later then four AM today, head out by the back roads up to Eli’s place. If you wait too long the roads will be jammed with other people fleeing the state.”
“What,” she said in disbelief.
“You heard me correctly honey, as soon as I hang up call Brad and Phil, tell them what I’ve told you, they know what to do, and will have their families ready to go. Have them help you hook up the locked trailer in the garage to my diesel Jimmy, the truck is full of fuel and there is an extra 60 gallons in the spare tank behind the cab. The trailer is already packed with most of my ammo and a lot of food and equipment we will need. Have the kids help load the rest of the stuff from the gun safe and all of the food from the pantry. Also I want you to pack all of our cold weather clothing, extra sheets and blankets, and some lighter stuff for next summer too. Don’t expect to return home for a year or two, OK so far?”
Anna said, “D, Brads wife Jan and the two kids left yesterday morning for the Bay area. Remember her Dad died two weeks ago? They were to meet her brother later today and start cleaning up the house, take an inventory of everything and get ready to put it on the market. Brad might want to head up that way and get them?”
“He’ll do what he thinks best, he told me last year the house was on the east side of Concord, they should be able to get out OK. Jan is smart and resourceful; her Dad had some guns so they should be well armed. You never know they might even get up to the cabin before you guys make it?”
“I hope so,” Anna answered.
“Now if Phil needs more gas to finish filling up all of his Jerry cans, have him siphon your car and the yard tractor dry. That should give him another 25 gallons or so and enough to make it all the way through, I’m counting on you guys, I love you and I’ll see you this evening bye.”
The next call was to Eli, and it went very simple. “Good morning Eli, don’t you every sleep?”
“Who needs sleep D,” as he set up in bed, looking at his watch Eli saw that it was almost 12:40, so he asked, “something on your mind D?”
“Big problems Eli, listen the Chinese have landed a force of five million or so soldiers by using converted oil tankers and container ships up here in San Francisco and down at Long Beach. They have attacked Travis Air Force base with missiles. The Khan has declared war on America and we are already under attack. It’s another Pearl Harbor type sneak attack, and it looks like it has started here in California this time. Oh one other thing the Jihad army has units with them. Those reports of ten to twenty thousand of those suckers south of the border, well they were correct.”
“I already called Anna and the kids, they are waking my two neighbors, you know Brad and Phil, they will load everything they can and meet me up at your cabin. I’m still up here in the bay area and I’ll be busy loading vehicles with weapons, and supplies for 50 people to last at least three months. I’m planning on departing this location within the next two hours, can you meet us up there?”
“Yeah, it’s a good thing we added that third bunkhouse last fall, otherwise it would be tight living there this winter. It will take me just a few minuets to load up and hit the road; I don’t want to be down here on the border, it will get very iffy if not worse. D I’m going to call David remember him from over there in Arizona I’ll warn him so he can alert his neighbors, those ranchers are really going to get hammered by the gangs, and those Jihad people.”
“Good idea Eli, before you do that I also want you to call our friends from Kansas and alert them, I know they will appreciate the heads up. Take care and I’ll see you tonight at the cabin.”
The Last call D needed to make was to his friend the Flight Sergeant with the San Diego Sheriffs Department. Alerting him so he could let the Sheriff know before he gets the call later from the Governors office, and again making plans for linking up later.
( In November 2000, Maj. Gen. Dai Qingmin, director of the PLA Communications Department of the General Staff HQ, wrote a major paper on "Information Warfare." According to Gen. Dai, pre-emptive attacks by the Chinese army on American civilian computer and information systems will use "information warfare techniques which differ from U.S. IW [information warfare] plans."
The PLA has reserve information warfare units located in the cities of Datong, Xiamen, Shanghai, Echeng and Xian. Each of these units is developing specialty capabilities to attack U.S civilian computers. For example, the Shanghai unit is focusing on attacking wireless telecom networks and double-encryption passwords.
Gen. Dai outlined Chinese info war strategies, including such hacker techniques as jamming or sabotaging enemy info systems, giving a false impression while launching an info war attack, and blinding and deafening an enemy with false impressions.
The Chinese army is deadly serious about attacking U.S. civilian computers. The recent massive PLA Taiwan invasion exercise included an info warfare operation in the Shenyang Military Region simulating attacks on U.S. civilian computers.
American computer security weakness, according to former defense adviser William Triplett, could spell disaster in the near future. According to Triplett, co-author of "Year of the Rat" and "Red Dragon Rising," the possible Chinese army penetration of critical computer systems is part of an ongoing information war being waged against America.
"This has enormous implications for Communist Chinese cyber warfare against the United States," stated Triplett, who has studied Chinese army information warfare.
"In a conflict, they could hold hostage the very lives of hundreds of thousands of American men, women and children."
According to Triplett’s 1999 book, "Red Dragon Rising," Chinese army information warfare is an "unheralded national security threat to the United States."
"The American economic, political and social system is essentially unprotected against a Chinese information warfare attack. As the PLA notes, ‘America’s economic system is extremely vulnerable to information attacks.’ Senior PLA officers have begun to talk among themselves about a pre-emptive strike using information warfare," noted Triplett. When he was informed of the late declaration of war he then said, “I can't imagine anything that would infuriate the Americans more. I feel all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."
Tenth Army Group commander, General Toson Gobi was pleased, the plan to beach the two modified super tankers loaded with the Fourteen heavy armor brigades here at the west end of the island had worked perfectly. The water was deep enough to bring the ships to within fifty meters of the shore, and who ever devised this part of the plan was a tactical genius. We are way ahead of schedule in the amount of equipment that was unloading down the two ramps on each of the ships. The four ramps had been carried from China, and from the air had looked like part of the bridge and hull structure. He couldn't help but smile, for once a plan was working like a clock. In 90 minuets he had three divisions on the ground and most of the heavy armor of another six. By sun-up he would have over 15 divisions unloaded here and at the other port in Oakland, and the rest would be off the docks by noon, leaving just the munitions and other stores to be unloaded.
The container ships had reported no problems in unloading, and the same with the car haulers carrying the six light armor divisions and the lighter support units. As planned the Special Forces teams had secured the commercial ports with no opposition. Most of the SF people had been here long enough in country and knew the ports inside and out. In fact several were working as longshoremen on this shift and the Americans were surprised when their fellow union members held them at gunpoint.
The two American harbor pilots were under guard and posed no threat to the unloading. The Coast Guard harbor patrol boat that came to check on our stopping here had given up with out firing a shot. They made the right choice to surrender, as their deaths would have been a wasted effort, especially after being surrounded by the four helicopter gun ships and the half dozen patrol boats we brought along, and had planned to use for just such an event.
The two Engineer regiments excellent and swift work was especially to be commended. They had detached the four sections from the hull, placing two sections together one on each side of the ships and flooded the compartments with water in less then ten minuets. In the first hour we had unloaded over two divisions off of each ship and control three kilometers of the island past highway 61 and now the bridge over the inlet to highway 880. All I need now is another two hours and I will have all of my heavy combat units spread from Berkeley to Hayward and enough light units from the container ships spreading out from the north Oakland container shipping port to our link up with the infantry units of the 74th army down at San Jose.
Ship Captain Xuwen reports, “General Gobi the radio operator says that the Oakland Police department has dispatched a helicopter to look for the missing Coast guard craft. In their talk they mentioned two jet aircraft from Travis Air Force base are also planning a fly over.”
The General looking at his watch, it was 00:35 and he smiled. He knew the invasion plan had indicated that an hour was about all the time they could hope for, before being discovered, they had remained undetected for one hour and thirty-five minuets, which was even better then expected.
Looking at his communications officer he said, “Alert the air defense units, keep everything in the passive mode until the American fighter pilot uses his attack ground radar. When he does lock on to him with several of our attack radars, this will show him that he is in a precarious situation. Do not launch any missiles unless he attempts to make a foolish attack on one of our transmitter pods.”
Captain Xuwen asks, “Won’t that be too late, he has a sweep radar that will tell him what we are doing?”
General Gobi smiled again as he said, “Yes he has a wide angle sweep radar, but that is not a worry anymore, only his attack radar will work, and only in a limited and very narrow range. On board each of our ships is a secret piece of equipment, manned by a select unit of officers, and we have added one to each division, it is a new anti-radar unit.”
“Sir I have never heard of such a unit!”
With a smile the General said, “I do not understand the principle completely but it sends out a counter energy wave that causes the radar receiver on board the plane to see nothing. The pilot will think that his transmitter is not sending because he’s receiver does not pick anything up. If a radar is in the frequency-jumping mode, our unit’s computer is just a millisecond behind and his radar will just look fuzzy.”
“This is the first time in warfare that the new anti-radar system is being used, no other country in the world has one or suspects that we have one. We have a lot of surprises for our enemy, and this war will be over before they can even but up a good fight. Ha, I almost feel sorry for the venal Americans, they think they lead the world in technology, they don’t even suspect half of what we have or will use to win.”
The Colonel watching the passive radar unit calls out, “Sir we have a military jet making a run, he is coming from the north bearing 020 heading south, he will pass about a kilometer to the west of our ships. For now he only has his ground sweep radar on, not his attack radar.”
“Have the close-in weapon systems and the regular AA batteries cover both the jet and the helicopter, but do not fire or attempt a radar lock on, let the Americans see this partial but strong part of the Khan’s armies landing on their shores, that will shake their vaunted pride. Alert the Qian Wei-2 platoons that are with the advancing Brigades, they are to have all of their vehicle-mounted units at the ready. Same with the other close in Manpad system, oh sorry navy captain Xuwen, Manpad stands for the QW-2 man portable air defence system. One that is very similar to the American Redeye system that was used with such success against the USSR years ago in their Afghanistan War”
Turning back to the communications officer the General said, “Call General Quoin he is with the Air Force lead units, tell him to have a dozen of his jets start their engines and make ready, I think we will need a Combat Air Patrol very soon. With the rest of his squadrons going to stand by.” The General paused and then asked, “what is the American Jet pilot doing now?”
“After passing to our west, he has just made a loop over the bay and is coming directly at the ships from the west, sir. He is still using his sweep radar only.”
“How soon before some of the Shenyang Jian-11’s arrive from the container ships?”
Looking at the unloading master list for all of the ships then up at the ships master clock the Colonel answered with, “If they have maintained their schedules as planned the first ten containers were unloaded five minuets ago and the trucks should be half way here, but it will take the air crews a few hours to make them ready sir.”
“With the weak response we are having I think we will have the few hours needed, maybe longer once we seed their military runways with our submunitions bombs,” the General glanced at the clock, “in another thirty minuets.”
General Gobi and several staff officers walk out to the wing of the bridge to take a look at the jet as it flies over them and the runway. Suddenly it seems to jump forward with tremendous speed and its engine is screaming and then it passes through the sound barrier with a tremendous boom that hurts their ears. The jet is dropping flares as it screams off to the east over Oakland. Most of them shake their heads to clear them, as the Colonel explains. “Just before he passed over the ships someone at one of the mobile radar units locked on to him, it was only for a couple of seconds but the pilot must have thought it was a missile being fired at him and he panicked. Do you want the man who turned on his target radar disciplined sir?”
“No, I think he did a good thing, if the pilot can be surprised that easily by just a radar beam what will happen to him when we fire missiles at them?”
“Reports are coming in from our forward air defense units to the east, the helicopter is using its Inferred search light, they are not sweeping it back and forth, instead they fly due west.” All of the men on the bridge wing look at the helicopter approaching and continue to watch as it passes over head of them, heading directly toward the west side of the bay.”
“I think they want us to believe that they are not really looking, that they are just out for a late night flight,” Captain Xuwen chuckled. “I have been to this port six times in the last two years and this is a first time, I mean a first time for a military jet and then a helicopter flying over.”
“Yes Captain today we will see a lot of first happening, what is the status of the American jet now Colonel?”
“He is headed due north passing out of our close in jamming range, right now. No wait we are picking up another jet heading south on almost an identical barring as the first jet took sir.”
“I thought there would be another jet out there, all pilots like to work in a team,” the General said with a satisfied smile. “That is what I would do if I were a pilot, to have someone I could trust watching my back and I would do the same for him.”
“Is any one of you a betting man,” the General asks his staff?
Before anyone can answer he raises a hand to stop them, “Don’t answer, it was just a rhetorical question. I say this jet will stay at the edge of our new negative radar system, testing its range; he will make a circle around and then he will use his attack radar to see if our new system can be penetrated.”
“Order the cruise missile launch teams to fire four missiles in one minuet at the Air Base, I want them on their way before the American pilot will return and fire a missile at one of our transmitters pods. I want to strike his base before he can return to it.”
“Colonel have several of the AA gun batteries switch to automatic fire if he uses his attack radar, I want him to know we will shoot first. Have three separate missiles ready too launch, but program them to only follow not to strike. If he uses their standard counter measures I want the missiles to act like they have lost the lock on and explode at 2000 meters above the bay. That way if they send more aircraft the Americans will be surprised by our response the next time.”
The General waits now, knowing exactly what the Americans will do next. His lips show the faintest smile as he’s thinking ‘when an enemy becomes predictable it is because he is assured of his superiority either in equipment or skills.’ Well the overrated American Military was about to receive its comeuppance and be reminded of the first lesson about warfare, ‘Never under estimate your enemy.’
All is quiet as they watch the radar, close to a minuet passes then the Colonel reports, “Sir the helicopter that flew over us has circled to the south and is now coming back over highway 61 and he can see our second wave of armor moving across into Oakland now. Should we shoot it down, sir,” he asks?
“No, it is unarmed except for the pistols the police carry, they know we are here, and soon there will be more killing then anyone of us will care to see or think about. Let them report back to their departments, the police can’t stop us now. Though they might want to write a few traffic tickets later,” he laughs at his own weak joke.
“And it is to late for their military, not unless they hit us with a nuclear bomb and they won’t do that; when the cruise missiles hit the base have the pre-recorded tape number one ready to transmit on all active military, police and commercial radio frequencies. That will make them think twice and slow their actions before they attempt to strike back, maybe even force them to get clearance from their President.” The General almost laughed at his own joke then, to wait on their vacillating President that was funny.
“General the jet has circled around to the east and is now on a heading directly at us, all AA units are ready. You would have won the bet sir,” the Colonel says smiling.
“He has just switched on his ground attack radar, our gun and missiles batteries are locking on and all are at attack ready.”
Suddenly six of the AA cannon batteries begin firing and three missiles are launched as the pilot releases one of his HARM missile at one of the Radar transmitters. Then he attempts to evade the ack-ack and missiles chasing him by flying between the two ships. The missile then following their per-programmed orders and blow up high over the harbor as the F-16 pilot flees north at supersonic speed.
“He thinks that his counter measures and fancy flying is keeping him safe,” the General says to his staff as he gives a weary smile. “When he gets back with his wing man he will brag over the radio that the Khan’s weapon systems can be easily gotten around. That will be their big mistake as they head into a trap where very few of them will come out of alive. Scramble our CAP now and give me a flight time and impact estimate on our Cruise Missiles.”
“Twenty seconds before the missiles hit their targets sir, we aimed for their ready room at the operation center plus the field tower.”
“Good when you confirm missile impact play the tape, then continue to jam all radio and radars transmissions, except for the commercial jets that might attempt to land here. Use the commercial flight control channels and tell the Americans to redirect them to Las Vegas or where every they desire, if they attempt to land here they will be shot down, repeat the warning and tell them they have only five minuets to divert all flights. Captain Xuwen I want to thank you for your hospitality these last few days. I now need to move into the base, to my forward operations center. Colonel inform my second in command he has operational control for the next twenty minuets.”

To jerk awake suddenly, sitting upright in bed from a deep peaceful sleep, with the phone ringing, has always made me break out in a cold sweat. And then before I can pick up it up, I get that sick knotted feeling deep inside my stomach, sensing that something is dreadfully wrong.
The phone rings for a second time, Dan can feel the sheets clinging to his sweating legs, and the air is cool on his damp back. Reaching over he glances at the clock, 2:54 AM and quickly picks up the phone so it won’t ring for a third time. Before answering hello he says a silent pray; hoping that it’s not from family, calling to inform them about the death of a loved one.
A small cough to clear the throat then, “Hello?”
A Lady’s voice asks, “Could you connect me to room 217 please?”
“I’m sorry, this is a private number,” Dan answers, “The last four number’s you want are 4233 not 7233.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, but thank you,” the lady, replies as she hangs up.
Evelyn sleepily mutters as she turns over, “That’s the first one in a month. Now we will get another one cause they always miss-dial the second time around to!”
Now wide-awake Dan turns and set’s his feet on the floor as he stands up, he jokingly says, “Well if they do you’ll have to answer it, I’m going to the loo.”
Just as he takes a careful step in the darkened room the phone rings again, he says’, “I’ll get it, she must of had it on redial,” Dan said a bit touchy, that hard knot in the pit of his stomach was even worse this time.
Glancing once more at the clock as he picked up the phone, the LED lights changed to 2:55 AM, “Hello,” he said, with a gruff tone to his voice.
“Dan it’s Eli, sorry to wake you my man but this is really important.” Not giving Dan any time to answer he continued, “D told me to call and give you a heads up. He said the Chinese have landed close to five million men in California, up at San Francisco and down at Long Beach near LA. They used several container ships, car haulers, and Super Tankers to bring their troops over here. Just a couple of days ago D and I started hearing rumors that the Jihad Army may have between 10 and 20 thousand men in Mexico all moving north toward the border. D was going to put the squeeze on some of his informants down south, but he got orders from above and heading up north to San Fran. Before he left he asked a couple of the better agents, buddies of his, to check out the report and to see if it was good solid information. So far I haven’t heard from them but seeing what’s happening now, I’ll bet there’s a whole lot more then 20,000 of them. It’s going to get messy Dan, real messy real fast. D also said there has been an attack at Travis Air Force base, and that about sums up all that I know.”
A sub-zero chill runs down Dan’s spine and continues down to his feet, his knees were a bit weak as he sets back on the edge of the bed. His first thoughts are, we are so unprepared, the same as the author of a book he had recently read about America at the beginning of WWII, ‘Survivor’ by John Playter.
Then his second thought was that this was a terrible nightmare; as he recalled the training scenario paper that Kirk Vasquez and he had written back in 76’. No way, this couldn’t be coming true. At that time the United States had sixteen combat ready divisions and eight another national guard divisions, what do we have today maybe fourteen total?
“Dan, you still their friend?”
“I’m still here Eli, you said Super Tankers right,” Dan said, his voice betraying his concern.
“Yes, and car haulers and container ships, Dan. D said to tell you, I have a place up by Bridgeport California, and I’ll be meeting D and his family there. Last year Lyle and his family came out for a week of vacation so one of your people knows where it’s located. I really need to make tracks me mucker, looks like another war has found us.”
“Do you still have a copy of the Rhodie Aide-Memoire,” Dan asked thinking ahead?
“Yes, it’s in my pack. Why?”
“If you need to talk to me and until we get a code page sent to you, use the appointment titles sections. I’m sure when you and D link up he will have a better system but until then.”
“I understand.”
“OK Eli I’ll be heading that way hopefully with my friends, it will take us a bit of work and organization, but we will help as soon as we can,” Dan assured him.
“If your heading this way Dan, I know your people will be coming too.”
As the gut-wrenching enormity of his responsibilities sets in Dan answered, “That’s what I’m afraid of, that my friends in the Militia will follow me. Pamwe Chete Eli, stay safe my friend.”
“Pamwe Chete, thanks Dan, it’s been a long time since I heard that, its Shona and you know what it means ‘All Together’, don’t you?”
“I know Eli, and that’s just what it is going to take, all of us together; if we are to stand a chance that is. My old unit’s motto was Asesabi Lutho, it’s Sindebele for ‘We Fear Not’. Hang in their friend, some how, some way if not the whole militia unit at least I and quiet a few of my friends will come and help.”
“Thanks, I know you guys will, any terrs I run across I’ll be sure to warn them, Chingera Imbwa, the Prairie Ghost are coming,” Eli chuckled as he hung up the phone.
Even with all the tension and the mounting anxiety building in him Dan shook his head and had to chuckle saying, “Chingera Imbwa,” now that was funny.
Evelyn had set up in bed when Dan had mentioned Eli’s name. When he said Pamwe Chete she turned on her side light waiting for Dan to finish talking to Eli, seeing the concern on his face she knew something bad was or is going to happen and waited for Dan to tell her. That old dread she had felt years ago when he went out into the bush hunting the terrs, it was back now, and with a vengeance. It was growing and building a knot inside of her, more so when he mentioned the Militia or him and friends going to help.
Hearing him say ‘Chingera Imbwa’, ‘Beware of the Dog,’ defiantly meant something about his Militia Unit, the Prairie Ghost.
Dan took a deep breath and asked her to hold any questions until he was finished. Then he told her what Eli had said of the Chinese invasion, and of the paper he helped write back in 76’. He summed it up by saying; “We had a far larger Army then, a total of 24 divisions, and a lot more Navy and Air Force too. Today the US would be hard pressed to field ten combat divisions here, not counting what is committed overseas, and I can only guess at the strength of the other volunteer Militia’s nation wide, maybe another thirty thousand men and women active, and a large part of them are poorly trained and equipped.”
“I don’t want you to go, that’s my honest feelings Dan. But if your called, will you,” she asked?
“I don’t want to, but I don’t have a choice honey, it’s war, here in America. Besides I told Eli if nothing else that I and a few others would head out and help. You know from having seen the war and death back home so many years ago it was bloody horrible. As for me it’s not something I really care to see again, especially not here in America. To be honest, I do have a lot of doubts and fears about leading friends and people I know so well into battle.”
“Dan you served with honor and distinction for over ten years of your life as a regular and in the reserves, and that doesn’t count the years in Africa. Isn’t it time to let others do their duty?” Evelyn wasn’t pleading for him not to go, she knew him better then that, she just wanted others to step up to the plate for once. Then she asked, “If your men and women ask you to lead them and to be in front, to command, will you?”
“Life would be a lot easier and a lot less complicated if we could choose the path we wanted and the types of duties and responsibilities we wished to follow. You and I both believe that the Lord won’t give us more then each of us can handle. So yes I will lead them if asked,” Dan answered.
Evelyn had her poker face on, and no emotion showed, but he knew that the inner hurt and turmoil was there and growing.
“I love you completely, and you know that. I can only ask the Lord for courage and direction in helping me make the hard decisions, I will be called to make, yes I can do it? I did it once before, and I know that I can do it again,.Though it is something I would rather not think about.”
“You’re a good man Dan,” Evelyn assured him, “don’t doubt yourself. I know that you have to do what is right, for all of us.”
“To do the right thing,” he said with a dry laugh. “You know, when I took that oath as a young freshly commissioned Second Lieutenant so many years ago; there was no clause about it expiring or any excuses allowed. That is the same oath that I have used when I swear new men and women into the Militia, Evelyn. I meant it when I took the oath again on being elected battalion commander. ‘To defend the State of Kansas and the United States of America against all enemy’s both foreign and domestic.’ Honey I love you and the kids with all my might, but we have to have a free land no matter what the cost, if our children are to grow up free. To give our future grandchildren and the following generations a chance at being free men and women too.”
Evelyn took a deep breath as she said, “Your right honey, you and the Militia must go and help, to keep the war as far away from home and out west in California, just like it was mostly keep in the bush back home. When we lost Rhodesia we at least had America to come too, but now there’s no place else we can go to, if the Khans forces win. That’s not something I want to even think about.” Over the years she had come to know the true character and steel core of her husband, keeping her feelings walled up inside she said, “Now do you need to make some phone calls, because I’m going to make us some tea, after that maybe we can finish our night’s sleep” as she gets out of bed and puts her night gown on.
The phone rings again, before Dan gets to it Evelyn picks it up and say’s, “Marion residents can I help you?
“Hello, Evelyn this is Tom Greene I need to speak with Dan please.”
Holding the phone out to Dan as tears are forming in her eye’s she says, “It’s General Greene Dan, I think your being called to duty.”
Taking the phone Dan can see the first tears running down her cheek, as she turned her head away picks up her robe, and walks toward the bedroom door, and with a sob said, “I’ll be in the Kitchen.”
Dan can’t go and comfort his wife, he feels that sad sorrow for her; as he answers the phone and tells what he knows, “General Greene, I just got a call from a friend in California and I know a little bit about the situation developing at the ports, if that’s why you’re calling sir?”
“Yes it is Dan,” he said amazed at hearing Dan say he knows what is happening. “Once again the Militia will be called to stand fast as we prepare. When we get time you’ll have to tell me about your source of information later; I heard what Evelyn said about being called to duty. I don’t have that authority so this is unofficial, but alert your people and have them report in to the Old Camp Forsyth barracks no later then Monday morning. Parts of it are in bad shape but I know your men will fix that:, they will also need to provide their own food for a week or so. I’m also just asking Dan, but can you and some of your staff come by later today at 0700 hours?”
“I can be there before 7 AM this morning and checking on the camp if that’s OK, I’m sure most of the others can make it by then. Is the situation that bad sir?”
“I won’t mince words Dan, yes it is bad, but I don’t know how bad, and it’s going to get worse, a lot worse and the next few day’s will tell us a lot. We have to hold the line long enough for the rest of America to get mobilized. As far as the camp goes, make plans that are practical.”
The Generals sarcasm came out with a gruff snot as he continued, “I do know the politicians are going to regret that each state didn’t have at least a Brigade of Militia like yours, that’s mostly trained, willing and able to step onto the field, but that’s now a part of history. Dan I also want you to start making plans on mobilizing and training another Militia Brigade size unit, so plan on some of your people to be held back as a training unit. Can you do that?”
“Our unit has a lot of good people, but we haven’t even dreamed of forming a second brigade sir. We have a lot of can do people, so yes somehow we will figure out a way to do it.”
“There are a lot of things we are all going to have to learn to do on the run Dan.”
“Very true sir, please let your MP’s know that we will start arriving in a few hours, if we have to fix up Camp Forsyth we will have to get started on it today.”
“Thanks for being here and ready Dan, I’ll let them know. Any thing else you want to ask or say so I won’t be surprised later?”
“Yes sir, two things, my friend said that they had word that there might be as many as 20,000 jihad soldiers just south of the border.”
“I received that info two days ago, but it was just raw Intel, it wasn’t confirmed but that’s a mute point now. What’s the second thing?”
“Sir don’t misunderstand me but I have to let you know, no matter how bad things get I will never surrender or give up, not while I still breath. Back in Rhodesia a lot the politicians and a large part of the brass hats never realized we were in a war for our survival. I want to let you know right now sir, If I’m ordered to quiet fighting, while an enemy army of occupation still stands on our land, I won’t. I’ll find a cave somewhere to hide in and fight from. If I have too I’ll even fight the Tories among us.”
“I understand what you’re saying, just make sure it’s a big cave Dan, you’ll have me and I’m sure a lot of others who will join us too. Now call out your people, get the alert rolling, and tell your people to start thinking. Tell them it’s life or death for America, get them to start thinking ahead, I’ll see you at 0700, out for now,” with that General Greene hung up the phone.
Dan hoped that the General hadn’t just cut his career short by calling on him and the Militia, but damn-it he’s right, America is in dire straits. We have to win this, no two ways about it. Either we win or we lose, it’s as simple as that. If necessary I’ll die fighting to see that America is victorious.
He didn’t want to even consider what happens if we lose.
Dan walks over to the computer desk and types in the e-mail address’s and the alert, ‘Two lanterns, no drill.’ And then he adds what he knows so far, and sends it out as an e-mail to all of the on line militia units nation wide and to his alert list within the Brigade. He knows Buck is in South Africa right now, and looking at the clock Dan figuring the time difference between here and there, thinks he should be at morning tea, and more-n likely he’ll be the first one to read it. Dan then e-mails a separate page of some extra instructions for Buck to do, people to see or contact and if possible a wish list of items to purchase. Dan knows Buck has connections at state so he shouldn’t have any problem buying or shipping over what’s on his list, and anything else that Buck is able to purchase. Now if the South African government will just let Buck make the purchases and ship them?
With that done Dan starts making his six contact calls within the Brigade to wake them up and set up a conference call to explain the situation, to get the alert process started so they could call their six and soon on…
Fifteen minuets later and after having changed into some blue jeans and a work shirt, Dan walks in to the kitchen and is surprised to see that the whole family is awake. The TV and radio are on, the TV is on one of the 24 hour news channels with no news of what is unfolding out west, same with the late night talk show on the radio.
Its hard to believe that they, a small family in the mid-west knows more about the world changing events going on before it’s national news. Evelyn and Sissy eyes are red from crying but for now both have regained some of their composure. Sissy walks over to her Dad and gives him a big hug, he returns the hug and kisses her hair. Gavin and Neil both had a look of excitement and worry at the same time running across their faces, as Neil gets up and joins Sissy in the hug of their father.
Dan knew he didn’t have to explain the reason why he had to go; his family knew he had to help defend America, hugging the two youngest Dan’s eyes mist a little.
“Looks like your training the Militia has finally paid off today,” Neil said with a smile.
“I have had the pleasure to work and train with some very good men son. And this isn’t what any of us wanted, not a war that’s for sure.”
“You know that no good deed ever goes unpunished, especially when you have continually waved the Constitution in the faces of the politicians. Reminding them they aren’t doing the job properly,” Evelyn said with an impish smile on her face. Her eyes were still red but she had regained her composure.
Before Dan could answer her Gavin said, “Mom and I have been talking and we both came to the same conclusion Dad, I have to let my knee heal properly. You have no idea how bad I want to come along today, but since I have these crutches and my leg is still in a cast, I would be in the way. I will have enough credits to graduate at the end of the first semester. I’m not going to do my graduate studies now, and I’ll talk to Col. Connors’ and get a release from having to finish the last two years of my ROTC training.”
Dan glances at Evelyn who shakes her head softly yes, as he asks, “I thought you were going for your graduate degree and wanting to be a Commissioned Officer in the Army?”
“That was yesterday Dad, the BA degree will do for now. I’ve been training over the years with the Militia to be a medic. I have my state Paramedics license, and since I will have my Degree in Business Administration by the end of this semester and I have taken the first half of my ROTC classes, I’m ready. I don’t want to wait another two years. Right now I would make you a very good Medical Platoon Leader or NCO, if not in your Battalion, then in one of the others. After the phone rang the second time I got up and as I came past your door I heard you talking to Major General Greene, you said something about forming a second Brigade. I could be a part of that unit as they should still be in training when I graduate, if not them, then in another one that will be forming after them.”
“You’re twenty-one years old Gavin, you’re a man, and its your decision. If that is what you wish I won’t try to talk you out of it. Your old enough to know that there is nothing glamorous about war, that’s its just one of the many unpleasant tasks that Patriots from time to time have to do.”
Dan paused for a second felling proud of his oldest and with some anxiety at the same time as he knew the dangers that would come. He continued, “No sane person wants war, but for the US to remain a free country and a free people and if it’s necessary then we will fight. As for being a medic in the military son, it’s one of the hardest jobs; you will see things that will turn your mind inside out as to how it can get that bad. I know your faith in the Lord is strong son, and I have faith in you, but it’s not a job for the faint of heart. And now the two enemies we face and maybe others will join them, you will see the truly malicious and the worst side of mankind!”
“I know that Dad, when we were working as trauma room assistance the chief ER surgeon told us some really tough stories about working at the forward surgical units in Iraq.”
Dan just nodded his head a couple of times letting out a deep breath he said, “Good then you know what to expect.”
“Yes, and I know it’s something I can handle.”
Neil has set back down and asks, “And what about me Dad? I’m seventeen and a half, the federal statutes say I can join if I want to, and I do.”
Dan again felt pride in having his youngest willing to volunteer, but also that sad hurt feeling was there too. “True, that’s correct Neil, but you must graduate from high school first.”
“Why? Grandpa graduated early and joined as a Sea-bee in January of 45’. I should be able to do the same.”
“Yes he did, but that was during World War II, and we had been fighting for years. A lot of young men had planned ahead and got the credits needed so they could graduate early. For now I don’t think there are any special provisions to graduate early, so that means it will be May at the earliest for you Son. Get your diploma then do what you have to do, you’re having that diploma first opens up a lot of possibilities later. OK?”
“OK, Dad I’ll do that, I have a lot of friends who will want to join in the spring to, for now we will train every weekend just like your men do once a month. There are a lot of retired veterans around who can give us the basics, that should help and with what I know from working with Lyle, that will cut our basic training time easily in half. I’m still going to drop my study hall and take another class, that way I only have to take one class next semester for the last credit I need for graduation.”
Dan looked at Sissy before he said a thing she said, “Don’t worry Dad I plan on finishing the next two years of collage. I’ll have my teaching degree then, at the term break I’ll move out of the dorm and back home to be with mom and Neil, it’s not that far of a commute and I can do a lot of the courses on line.”
Evelyn was looking, away trying to keep from crying again, she had seen war and been in the army herself back Home in Rhodesia. She knew a little of what it felt like to be a Blue Star Mom, as her brother had served to. She would let Dan handle the two boys; he was correct and also being very diplomatic, no woman wanted to have three blue stars in one banner hanging in her window. But with time she could accept that if it became necessary, knowing that’s what happens when you have men of honor in the home.
“It’s just I’m so scared Dad, I’m not strong like mom is.”
“What doesn’t kill us honey, makes us stronger. You will find that strength, it’s in you,” Dan replied. “From this day forward we will all be stronger.”
“Dan, have the boys help you pack the extra gear you’ll need to take, Sissy and I will fix a good breakfast, that way we will have a big family meal together before you leave, something pleasant for you to remember in the rough times ahead.”
“Good thinking honey, Cody will be by to give me a lift in about two hours, come on boys it won’t take long to sort out what I need to add to my deployment gear.” After getting down the stairs and opening up the gun room Dan says, “I will be taking my FN and the spare one, to loan out, plus thirty extra magazines That will leave you boys with your own FN’s and the Springfield Armory heavy barrel, and sixty or so magazines for the three, plus the two AK’s, the shotguns and hunting rifles, in case Mom and Sissy need them for home defense or to loan out to a neighborhood defense group. Don’t loan out a single one of the five pistols though you might need them. We have lots of spare ammo for each weapon but don’t waste it, cause I don’t think there will be anymore gun shows until after the war is over,” Dan advised the boys.
Gavin asked, “Are you going to take the night vision Dad?”
“Nope, I’m sure the Army will loan us some. Besides both units are mounted on rifles and zeroed, I’m sure you two will take care of them and will use’em wisely if needed.”
“I hope we won’t need them Dad,” Neil replied, as Dan could hear the question in his answer.
“Both of you men listen to what I’m about to say,” Dan’s voice had a hard edge to it. “Our enemies either the Chinese or the Jihad soldiers are the bad guys, they are worse then anything you two can imagine, and more horrible that any nightmare that Hollywood could stage in a movie. If they get this far you can bet they won’t show any restraint, they are here in America to kill as many people as they can. Or to.scare us, to keep us from fighting to best of our ability. To make the average American too afraid to stand up to them,. If you have to face them, control your fear and do what has to be done. Kill them before they can kill you, a loved one or any other American. You’re to use any force necessary to stop them without thinking first. Before this day is through and as you watch the news from out west, and as the fighting grows more desperate and intensifies around the world, you’ll understand what I’m trying to convey to you.”
As her Dad and her two brothers went down the stairs Sissy turned to her Mother and said, “Mom I don’t want Dad to go. I’m so afraid of what might happen to him”
“That’s OK Sissy, fear is a natural feeling for times like this, but don’t worry, your father can take care of himself. He’s done this before and very well too, the enemy he faces will soon fear him more.”
“How can you be so sure mom, bad things happen in war, lots of people die and dad might be one of them?”
“Yes honey bad things happen all the time, and not just in war. Every morning when we each leave the house to head to work or school, we never know if all of us will return safely. When we do that is God’s will, and war is just another one of the potholes in the road of life. As I said your father will be OK, he knows that his fate is in Gods hands, he is at peace with that. Why should we not fill the same?”
“I think I understand but I’ll still worry.”
“So will I, your father is a good man he has seen the horrors of war before, he knows that we have to win this war or America and it’s dream of freedom for the average man will be lost for countless generations. He will fight hard and smart and he will see that his men do the same.”
“Does it have to be this way mom, why can’t we all just sit down and talk out our problems?”
“I wish it were that simple. The average man would do that and find a way to get along, but then along comes a little dictator or a religious fanatic and they want to lord over the rest of us. Your dad and many other good men an women like me won’t accept that. So the fanatics and the dictators make war on the rest of us, to make us their slaves. The only way you can stop them is to give them a hiding better then the one they are giving out. In a fistfight if some one is trying to hurt you, you have to hurt them so bad they won’t come back at you. That means you have to be willing to give them broken bones, to spill their blood, lots of dislocated joints and even more painful bruises. In war that translates into lots of dead soldiers, a lot more dead civilians at home, a smashed economy, and sometimes a ruined country. You have to destroy their will to fight before they destroy yours.”
“That sounds brutal Mom.”
“Yes it does but that’s life and that’s what war is, brutal and very deadly, we either fight to win or lose by not fighting as hard as you have too. That’s how Rhodesia was lost and now it’s no more. We don’t want the US of A to go the same way now do we!”
“No, I never thought about it that way.”
“Enough talk on this subject, we have a big breakfast to fix, how about getting the bacon started while I’ll start on the biscuits with fresh tomato gravy on the side, then we can do the eggs.”
“Dad will like that, and we can make…”
“The radio just announced that there is some fighting going on in California,” Sissy calls down the stairs to them.
Gavin turns on the radio and they hear, “As reported in the evening news there are major power outage in most of southern California and our news sources from there are very few right now, what is coming in sounds confused. But the Bay system Radio is broadcasting that there is a major force of Chinese troops advancing from the shipping docks eastward. This is not a hoax folks; we have confirmed reports of fighting between our Air Force and this invasion force. No idea of the numbers or exact location. Unconfirmed sources have reported that China sent a declaration of war against the US last night at 11: 45 Pacific coast time to the White house. And somehow they have landed a sizable force of troops in California, there is no word from the White House yet, so stay tuned for this breaking news…”
After eating breakfast Dan changes into his BDU’s, and packs the other six sets into a second ready bag and places both bags next to the stairway, ready to grab on his way down. Then heading into the kitchen he helps Evelyn finish cleaning up, telling her, “Honey, I know this may sound strange to you, but I really wish I didn’t have to go. I mean it to. But a maningi indaba has found me once again, it’s not…”
Evelyn turned to him and held a hand up to his lips forcing Dan to stop talking, as she said, “Over the years, I’ve said you and your friends were a little bit nuts, playing soldier, storing food, helping after a disaster. That no one would ever take the Militia seriously or dare to call you guys out. And if someone did it would have been political suicide for an elected official. And now look who was wrong. I’m proud that you persevered and had the foresight to do what is right; to make plans for what is now happening. Dan you don’t need to apologize for being right, you were correct, I was the one who was wrong.”
“No you were…”
“Shush I know you Dan; you couldn’t sit still and do nothing now even if you hadn’t helped form the Kansas Militia years ago and prepared. Now I’m the one who is sorry that I didn’t encourage you more back then. In Rhodesia you lead from the front and your Squadron followed, now your heading for the front once again, and a Brigade of good men are following you once more. And very soon our two sons will be there with you, I won’t ask you to keep them in the rear areas out of harms way, neither of them would want that. They are too much like you, not reckless or fool hardy, but brave and honorable men. I’m proud that the three of you are willing to share the hardships and take the risks, to do what is necessary for a free America, for us. Because all three of you have honor and duty written into your characters, just do your best to come home safe and sound with them.”
Dan swallowing the lump in his throat replied, “I’ll do my best. All three of our children have been blessed, and we are the ones who are truly lucky, you’re being awful good about this honey.”
“Ha, it’s just false bravado, I’m just being strong because I don’t want the kids to worry, to think that their father might not be coming back. But you will come back because we have a lot of life to still live together Daniel Francis Marion, you hear me, you will come back,” she said and then emphasized her point by poking her index finger at him.
“I hope so, I want to, but only the Lord knows for sure.”
“Yes only the Lord knows.”
The doorbell rings and she says in a soft whisper and laughs, “I guess that’s Cody, there goes our chance of a quick nucky!” Giving Dan a big hug and a kiss she adds, “Call or write at least once a week, I’ll pray ever minuet of every day for you. And then for the boys when they follow, and for all of our friends that will be with you, to return safely.”
Dan tells Evelyn, “I’ll do my best to write or call, I love you , you’re my life and my anchor.”
“Never doubted that Dan, you’re a good man stay that way, now go and do what you have to do.”
Sissy comes into the room and gives her dad a big hug again as she says “I’ll wait here with mom that way you won’t see us crying as you leave. I love you Dad please be careful.”
Dan gets a lump in his throat, and gives her a hug in return afraid to say anything more then, “I love too honey.” Then he turns and walks down the hall way and opens the front door, it’s Cody Dressed in BDU’s and both men shake hands.
Cody says, “Gavin and Neil saw me driving up and are loading your stuff into the back of the pickup now. So as soon as you are ready we can go and pick up Larry Hayes, he needs a ride too since they have only the one car for his family.”
Getting his Gore-Tex BDU Jacket from the hall closet Dan says, “I’m ready, lets see if the boys need help loading.”
Dan leads the way down the stairs and into the garage, but the boys have finished and are waiting. Cody shacks their hands as he says, “Thanks men, we’ll be seeing you later,” he then turns and gets into the driver seat of the pick-up so Dan can say his good-bye to the boys.
He gives both sons a hug and tells them to watch out for the family. Gavin hands him the pistol belt that has the holstered CZ-52 and its attached pouch with two spare magazines as he said, “I think you will need this rather then the .45. I read the Sino-defence report last year telling about their new body armor, it’s just a beefed up flak jacket and the 7.62 round will penetrate it easily but not the .45, your two FN’s, Cody locked in the toolbox. I also loaded 400 rounds extra for the CZ it’s in the marked .30 caliber ammo can, and we also loaded the four thousand rounds of Portuguese NATO rounds you wanted for the FN’s.”
“Thanks son, I want both of you to start training your friends, call them later this morning and have several of them come over either today or tomorrow and get started. Call Mr. Atkins and ask to use the hay field and woods behind us, I know he won’t mind but ask first, by your asking it makes for good neighbors. I didn’t say anything earlier about the Chinese’s Allies, but they have a sizable number of the Jihad Army with them, that means there’s a nasty fifth column already here hiding in the country, ready, waiting and plotting. Beware, because Muslims are not just dark haired people with good tans and beards. You both remember what I told you, about the Chinese coming across the border in squad size groups two years ago, so keep your eyes open. As I find out more and if its not classified I will write and let you know, I better run now, I’ll see you both later,” as he hugs both of the boys again, and then gets into the pickup and shuts the door.
Neil says softly so that only his older brother can hear, “Dad I love you, be careful.”
Gavin places his hand on his brother’s shoulder offering comfort, “Dad knows that, and don’t worry bro, mom says Dad can take care of himself. Dad doesn't talk much about his combat experiences in Rhodesia, but mom said he did his job very well. His unit had a good record of getting the hard jobs they were assigned to done, it’s the poor bastards he runs into that will need help. You know he’s always saying that Rhodie phrase of ‘Chingera Imbawa,’ beware of the dog, lets yell it for him as they go down the driveway.”
After buckling his seat belt Dan tells Cody, “Let’s go, we have a lot of hard work ahead of us my friend.” Taking a deep breath and then letting it out slowly he finished, “Like it our not we have got to go and stand in front of the enemy lines once more,” Dan turns and waves bye to the two boys, glad that they can’t see the red in his eyes.
“We can do that,” Cody added!
Both boys wave and shout, “Chingera Imbawa.”
Cody asks, “I’ve heard you and some of the men say that before, but I forgot, what does it mean?”
“Chingera Imbawa means ‘beware of the dog’, it’s a warning,” Dan replied, still looking b ack at his boys and waving good-by.
“Fitting, very fitting, only the Prairie Ghost won’t be giving any warnings. We have a powerful totem to live up to Dan, and we will. Before this war is over our enemies are going to wish they had never heard of the Kansas Militia, never had to meet us on the battlefield, and never pushed us. I do hope that our elected leaders in DC realize it’s just like WWII all over again and that we have to completely crush and destroy our enemies before we stop this time. No more Korea’s or Vietnam's, or Iraq 1 & 2, this time we have to finish it.”
“Yes we do, that reminds me of a book I read years ago called the “The Fourth Turning" by William Strauss and Neil Howe, about the progress of man and how we seem to have lost the true spirit of what it means to be an American. We, America all of us are drifting toward a cataclysm, we know that times are a changing and we, as a free people might not survive. That our civilization might not survive, and our grandchildren won’t know about the American dream.”
“My people believe, in fact most of the Indian cultures believe that life always comes back to form a complete circle. As in the progress of the seasons, spring becomes summer and then it turns into fall. Which of course turns into winter, and at the end of winter with everything dead, cold, overcast and bleak and its dragging on like it will never end, then one morning you wake up and see the first signs of spring and in a few weeks the weather is warmer and plants begin to green up and start budding, and the whole cycle starts again. It’s not last year but a new year. Only God knows what is in store for us, but we face each day with hope and anticipation of a good life. Dan our people in the Militia knew this crisis was coming, that is why they worked so hard, and now it is time to trust our instincts, wither we were aware of it or not we think seasonally, and prepared. We, us, the Militia are here and we can make a difference, all we can do is to pray that it is enough.”
As Cody pulls out of the neighbor hood Dan tells him, “I remember a speech by Ronald Reagan he said ‘you and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.”
“Not while we still can draw a breath boss, and I know a considerable number of our friends who feel the same to,” Cody said with conviction in his voice. “We all knew that something bad was coming our way. Not this of course, but that’s why we train, to be ready for the what if’s. I know that both of us as young men and later as soldiers took to heart the words of JFK. ‘Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”
Dan shaking his head in agreement sighed as he replied, “So true, and having seen war before in all it’s ugly bloody waste, it’s something I would prefer not to let the next generation know first hand.”
Changing the subject Cody said, “Since you started the alert a few hours ago, all of our First Sergeants in the battalion called in their two-hour reports, and we were getting close to a 70% response. By Monday morning I bet we will have over 95% or more of the men and women reporting in. As you said, we have a lot of work to do, thank goodness we have been training, so that our getting ready to enter the fight can be cut down to just weeks rather then in six to eight months.” Pausing for a second he then adds, “Being called up. That changes our status from the unorganized Militia to the organized Militia doesn't it?”
“I'm pretty sure it does, we will have to ask one of our attorneys to check out all of the legal changes we will have to meet. Of course it all depends on what the Governor and both State houses do and enact as laws to cover this emergency. No more coming and going now once your in the Militia it's for the duration of the fighting here on American soil.”
The two men were silent for a few minuets as they each weighed the enormous challenges that they were presented with. Cody asked Dan, “It’s a scary situation we are facing my friend, we can’t fail, I’m feeling a lot of anxiety and I’m fearful, are you afraid too?”
With a chuckle Dan said, “Afraid, damn right I am, with every other though I’m praying as hard as I can asking for help and guidance, our friends in all of the Kansas Militia units have their work cut out them.”
“Maybe this will help,” Cody said, “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.’ That’s Joshau 1:9.”
Dan nodded his head in agreement as he said, “So true, the Lord is always with us. Do you remember, Oriana Fallaci the writer who died a couple of years ago? Anyway she was an uncompromising Italian journalist, who fought against the fascist in World War II. She’s wasn’t afraid to call out the bigots and traitors among us even in her last years. She was a passionate defender of our Western Civilization, who vowed to fight to the death, right after 9/11. She told the Islamic enemy then, ‘War you wanted, war you want? Good. As far as I am concerned, war is and war will be. Until the last breath.”
Cody said in agreement, “That’s a good saying, strong words and from a real gutsy women too,”,
‘Until the last breath’.”

Long live the Republic, Long live America.
To the Founding Fathers
Your light still lingers in our distant morning,
A star that we perceive across the void.
We chart our passage by your words, still burning
Long after your bright core has been destroyed.
No longer do we speak of "natural" rights,
Nor can we think that Reason guides our will.
We've been through far too many gruesome nights
To hope we have reduced our lust to kill.
Yet hope remains the engine of our fire,
Hope that someday all of us will be
Happy in the least that we require:
Well-fed, well-housed, safe, secure, and free.
This dream we still pursue. Though darkness come,
Your wisdom, hope, and courage through us run.

‘Since disarming Americans makes little enough sense given the prevalence of normal street crime, it is far more ludicrous to call for unilateral disarmament when Americans are at war with ruthless killers dedicated to murdering civilians. The very freedom that makes America a powerhouse also leaves it vulnerable to terrorist predators. We have 91,062 schools, 4,000 water treatment plants, 3,329 major malls, 493 skyscrapers, 322 commercial sports stadiums, 103 nuclear reactors, and 190,000 miles of natural gas pipeline. There are more than half a million bridges. The United States will never, and should never, have enough people in uniform to effectively guard them all.
Americans by the tens of thousands – knowing that the future is unpredictable – have become first-time firearms owners since the terror of Sept. 11. They've discovered what the rest of us have known – that our nations security means a practical commonsense personal gun ownership.
With the threat of more terror attacks from Osama bin Laden and his international terror network, Americans are looking toward the protection of the Second Amendment. The most basic element of that right goes to individual citizens' abilities to protect themselves, their families, their homes, their communities, and, if need be, their nation.
We are at war. Our country has been defiled by terror, our people murdered by terror. This is about facing evil on a world scale. It is about cosmic hatred by fanatics willing to forfeit their lives on our soil to kill as many innocent Americans as they can. It's about Americans fighting back – from airline pilots to average citizens.
It's about the true meaning of an armed citizenry and our bedrock belief in preserving freedom now and for always.’ (Author Unknown)
